Brazilian model Camila Alves is coming out with a line of handbags called “Muxo,” as we mentioned earlier in a way that was wholly unclean. This time around, we’ll focus solely on the handbags, mkay?:
Alves, her mother and two workers make the bags by hand in their studio in the South Bay area, where they take orders for custom designs. Retail prices run from $500 for clutches to $1,350 for larger bags. Alves said she has already started courting interest from prestige department stores and specialty boutiques around the country.
Which means two workers make the bags by hand for Muxo. But, whence comes this mysterious and exotic name, Camila?
Alves said the name in reverse, Oxum, is an African river goddess, the idea of which inspired the line. The brand is etched into the leather in large, ancient-looking type.
“The name really caught my attention because I started thinking of the beauty of water, women and the ocean,” said Alves. “There was something mysterious about it.”
Mysterious indeed how an African deity equates to leather handbags hanging from the boney shoulders of fashionistas. In fact, we enjoy this air of mystery and perhaps the smell of old cheese so much that we decided to launch our own line of purses and call it “Chalchiuhtlicue,” after the Aztec goddess of lakes and streams. Only we will spell it “Eucilhuihclahc” to preserve an even greater aura of mystery and wonder and bargains.

Stop hating on the girl. I love the concept and her bags.

I am speechless to hear that Muxo is Oxum in reverse. Oxum is a goddess of MACUMBA, which is black magic sect from Brazil. Google it and you will see!
