Back in the day the only girls allowed to were chola make-up were cholas. Not white girls(gabachas) I’ve always worn chola make up since middle school. ANd the best brands are wet n’ wild and apple and cover girl for the powder cause that was the lightest. Me and my homegirls always said better to look white than orange. Where I grew up cholas wore their make-up like a badge of honor or sumshing…

Besides getting the tar beat out of me for lookin like a chola, I quit using Wet N Wild because it made my face break out. Although, I will say I still use their eyeliner. When you heat it with a blow dryer, it’ll go on creamy & stay in place. No raccoon eyes.

@ E, no one says that there is anything wrong with it. I have plenty of Wet and Wild stuff and assorted brands. I guess it comes with the cachet of being a chola, using what little money you have to get “that” look.

If I may extemporize on the cachet of status and makeup, one can easily achieve a modicum of class/status by the brand of makeup one has. Try pulling out a Angel Face compact vs. a Chanel one, and see what reactions and expectations of class come with that.

Remember, aunque la mona se viste de seda, ( o se pinta la cara como la chola del barrio) mona se queda.

That’s exactly what I was thinking when the video kept talking about MAC products. I did the chola look in jr high when I could afford makeup but only at the 99 cent store without mami knowing.
