Emilio Navaira Clinging To Life After Bus Accident
Grammy winning Tejano superstar Emillio Navaira is in critical condition today after a bus accident in southwest Houston in the wee hours of Monday Sunday morning left him and six other band members injured.
Navaira, 45, had emergency surgery to remove a blood clot that put pressure on his brain. After the two-hour operation, he underwent experimental treatment where doctors lowered his body temperature to treat the injury, the AP reported Monday.
“There is a chance he may not make it,” said Dr. Alex Valadka, director of neurotrauma services at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and vice chair of neurosciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
“Everyone needs to understand that right up front. That’s how bad it is.”
Navaira, a celebrated musician in the Tejano world on the level of Selena and one who has often been called, (by us anyway), the George Strait of Tejano music, was driving the bus.
Assistant Bellaire Police Chief Byron Holloway told the AP Tuesday that Navaira wasn’t licensed to drive “a vehicle that size.”
Byron stated that tests are underway to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved and whether the accident was caused by driver error—including the possibility that Navaira fell asleep at the wheel—or a mechanical failure.

The accident occurred Sunday morning. If you go to El Gordo y la Flaca’s site on Univision.com, they explain in one of their videos that Emilio was thrown out of the bus by an accident.

The local news just reported that he was listed in stable condition and the doctors gave him a 30% chance of survival.
Also, there’s a vigil for him Thursday night outside the Dallas City Hall. I’m taking my mom, her buddies and 4 Saint Bernadette candles.

I just want to share this , year ago december 9 2007 my sister and dad have a horrible accidental my sister 15 year old was in critical condition, some condition as Emilio her body was froze for couple weeks we thought that she was not going to make it. Miracles hopen and my sister was one unfortunable suffer braindamage, but she is with us and we almost lost the faith, seen my mom dealing with this…It was a lesson for all of us to prouf to us that God is the only one who really know what going to hopen, hopeful somebody of Emilio Family will read this. Just keep praying nothing is going to be easy in life dont loose faith be strong that GOD will see that. Is a long prosses buth hopefull he will over come, I am alway have him in my mind,and to heard some news from Emilio, I know how feel having someboby in that situation for months, keep praying and God dont forget anybody.

Hey I was wondering how Emilio is recovering now. After his accident, never really heard anymore on how he is doing. I have to depend on my sisters ex-husband in Texas to hear on his condition.
