Tejano Star Emilio Navaira’s doctor Alex Valadkain announced yesterday that Navaira is doing about as well as can be expected after undergoing two surgeries for a massive head injury since his bus accident Sunday morning.
Valadka led a team of surgeons who removed a hand-sized portion of Navaira’s skull on Tuesday to reduce pressure from a bruise forming on the left side of the singer’s brain.
Navaira remained unconscious in critical condition at Memorial Hermann hospital. He is expected to stay in the intensive care unit for up to two weeks.
Valadka warned that Navaira could still take a turn for the worse, but stated “I feel optimistic that he will not die.” Fans held a vigil Monday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio and are continuously present outside the hospital where he lies in a coma in Houston.

Hi, I am from Tennessee (about 80 miles south of Nashville) an am praying continuously for Emilio and his family. Miracles do happen, an I feel that Emilio deserves to have one of those miracles. We just have to stay strong, pray a whole lot, think positive, and BELIEVE. God will see him through!!!! I’ve not had the fortune of seeing Emilio in person, but he is an awesome talent an a wonderful person. Be strong. Your Tennessee Friend, Joyce

My prayers are with you Emilio. I still have our picture we took together when I was a little girl and I can’t believe time has gone by so fast. I am now 17 years old and I still love your music just like I did back then. Your love for music inspired me to play guitar and write my own songs. Please recover from this tragedy and sing again. I pray we will meet again. All my love….
