In a historic and bold move, newly sworn-in New York Governor David Paterson got his sex scandal out of the way last night, in an interview during his inaugural celebration. Efficiency in Albany! Paterson, who rose from Lieutenant Governor this week after former Governor Eliot Spitzer stepped down amidst a prostitution scandal, (you may have heard), divulged to the press in an interview with his wife Michelle that they both had affairs outside their marriage during a “rough patch” some time in the past.

“This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point,” Paterson told the Daily News. “But I went to counseling and we decided we wanted to make it work. Michelle is well aware of what went on.”

More sinvergüenzas after the jump!

The confession came amidst rumors that were, according to CNN, “swirling” in Albany. (Sidebar: We picture Albany to be like one of those fictitious soap opera towns. Small, but the devil’s den.) Amongst the details he offered the New York Daily News was the fact that he sometimes took his girlfriend to a Days Inn hotel in New York’s Upper West Side. A place often frequented by his legislative staff when they were visiting from Albany. He knows other people can see, right?
