Stars: They’re just like us! Penelope Cruz would like you to know she also stands by the kitchen sink at night, when the house is quiet, wiping away tears and wondering how she could have possibly downed an entire box of wine in half an hour. Perhaps, she guesses, eyeing the sleeping pills on the counter, it’s because she can’t make rent, her kid is in juvie, her mom has cancer and her husband might be having an affair. Oh, wait, except she feels down after getting a big, fat paycheck for playing someone else for a month or so:

“With the movies that are more intense, sometimes you go through a little withdrawal. After ‘Volver’, I was a nightmare to be around, you could not talk to me. I felt homeless, so lost, so confused. After so many months working together it felt like a drug addiction.”

She revealed she would never resort to drugs to make her feel better: “I think there have got to be other things. I have always known that that would just bring me into a deeper hole. So that was never a solution to me.”

Actually, there are no “other things.” Nothing soothes the depression gnawing away at your heart like an Ambien & Tonic. Except maybe lighting your millions of dollars on fire, just because you can, before diving headfirst into Javier Bardem’s crotch.
