Now Cubans Are Free To Watch DVDs On The DVD Players They Can’t Afford To Own

Proving that, while it may last five decades, nothing bad lasts forever, President Raul Castro has lifted restrictions on certain electronic items Cubans were not previously allowed to own:
“Based on the improved availability of electricity the government at the highest level has approved the sale of some equipment which was prohibited,” said an internal government memo seen by Reuters.
It listed computers, video and DVD players, 19-inch and 24-inch television sets, electric pressure cookers and rice cookers, electric bicycles, car alarms and microwaves that can now be freely bought by Cubans.
A veritable feast of rice and bread rations! Any opinion you might have on the matter, though, is probably best kept to yourself. Unless there’s some sort of electric swimsuit that’s now available.
