Sci Fi Author Larry Niven Thinks Lying To Spanish-Speaking Patients Will Help Hospitals

SIGMA is a group of about twenty-four science fiction writers who frequent the Department of Homeland Security’s science and technology conferences to offer advice and eat some complimentary mini-muffins. One of SIGMA’s members is Larry Niven, author of, among other works, Lucifer’s Hammer, co-written with fellow SIGMA member Jerry Pournelle. Niven also happens to be the author of at least one fairly xenophobic solution to the problem of overcrowding and financial difficulties facing American hospitals:

Niven said a good way to help hospitals stem financial losses is to spread rumors in Spanish within the Latino community that emergency rooms are killing patients in order to harvest their organs for transplants.
“The problem [of hospitals going broke] is hugely exaggerated by illegal aliens who aren’t going to pay for anything anyway,” Niven said.
“Do you know how politically incorrect you are?” Pournelle asked.
“I know it may not be possible to use this solution, but it does work,” Niven replied.

Another solution would be to set up some sort of suicide-assistance center where Spanish-speaking volunteers could watch nature footage and listen to soothing music before being churned into protein-rich feed for people more deserving of things like medical care.

“spread rumors in Spanish within the Latino community that emergency rooms are killing patients in order to harvest their organs for transplants.”

that is the most fucked up thing i’ve heard all day
but it’s laugh out loud funny, who would actually believe that shit?!

and that man in the picture looks like my co-worker..Hi STEVE

Oh Jesus Christ, unbelieavable.

I wonder if he has given any thought about how to deal with the blacks, Jews and, gays?!

Maybe it would be easier to not buy his books

First of all, Larry, how can anyone take you seriously in those 1985 MIT Standard Issue glasses? And secondly, just so you know, two can play at the rumor game. The chupacabra and la llorona had to start somewhere. Watch your hairy back, Larry. You don’t know who you are messing with.

They can take my liver any day!
