Looks like Thomas Beatie’s neighbors are not buying his story about him being the first pregnant man. In this clip from CNN, one neighbor says he saw Beatie the other day sans belly. Could this be an elaborate ruse from Ashton Kutcher, or is he just one of those insufferable bitches who doesn’t show till the third trimester?

I think it is his own business if he want to get pregnant and people should mind their own business. read a medical journal, if the fetus is implanted then you dont have to be a specific gender in order to carry a child. You do not need a uterus and you do not need a vagina in order to deliver a baby, if he (or she what ever you want to call him) is actually knocked up then you have to respect his or her choice to keep the child. You also have to respect the fact that yes he may not be like everyone else out there but chances are his (or her) baby is going to be healthy and happy just like we always wanted to be. Face the facts people, with science these days anything is possible, maybe you should open your minds a little bit and respect the fact that he (or she) is even trying this, child birth is not an easy task to do , and there is a slight chance that both the child and the parent are going to die.
PC or not, it is generally thought that ‘biological sex’ and ‘gender’ are two separate (though often linked) entities. Biological sex is usually pretty obvious outwardly, and even when it isn’t, chromosome analysis will tell you if there is a ‘Y’ chromosome. A ‘Y’ chromosome = biological male, regardless of whether the…er…equipment is intact. :-) Gender, however, is generally regarded as a social construct, encompassing how you were raised, your role in society, how you behave according to that role, how others see you, and how you self-identify. Simply put: This is a biological female who has taken on a male gender and social role. They wish to be referred to in the ‘male’ language, so personally? I am inclined to respect that, as I haven’t any hangups about clinging to rigidly defined sex roles. I applaud them, if they have decided to actually have a baby like this — although to be honest, I think this is a hoax. Not to say that it CAN’T happen, just that in this case, I don’t believe it has. (PS - I believe that it was stated that in order to become pregnant, he had to stop the testosterone injections. So it would be unlikely to affect the fetus at all, if it did in fact occur, any more than a woman who took steroids in high school would affect her baby years later.)
Ok, so, clue me in…gender reassignment surgery, but still has the female parts. How does that work. Doesn’t sound like the gender was reassigned after all. Sounds like a gay relationship to me. Yes, I said that, and yes, people probably think of me as close-minded, but I don’t care. My religious beliefs lead me to this conclusion, and if you can’t accept that, then calling me intolerant is being hypocritical because you are one yourself.
I say bravo to Thomas and his wife for having the courage to do what makes them happy in a society where non-tradional practices are taboo and looked down upon. As a gay woman, I strive to equality and freedom and this is a step in the right direction for our GLBT future. This world would be a much happier place if everyone minded their own business. Any person that is CAPABLE to carry a child should have the right to do so. I’m sure that Thomas and his wife will love and cherish that child becuase of what they had to go through to have it and thats more than I can say about the heterosexual coupls of this world. I don’t think I have EVER heard of a gay couple who just had the wonderful opportunity to adopt a child, throwing that child in a trash can in an airport or putting the child through sever abuse. So take a look at your lives before you judge someone elses!

The fact that he can have a child for his wife who is infertile due to endometiosis is wonderful. I too am infertile for the same reason as well as adnomyosis. I would be thrilled if my husband could carry a child for us.
This doesn’t make them immoral or anything else. If God thought that there was something wrong with what is being done, then it wouldn’t have happened in the first place.
I was raised to believe that God has a hand in everything. This as well has God’s hand in it. I pray for a safe delivery for both the child and father. I pray for the family to have a wonderful future together.

Thomas was born a female. Thomas is a “she” whether she likes it or not. Her surgery, testosterone intake, and traditionally male style definitely makes her appear to be a male. But she is not a “he” in the same way that Micheal Jackson is not a white person just because he bleaches his skin, had a nose-job, and straightens his hair.
Furthermore, I feel sorry for people who have to take such drastic measures as to take testosterone pills and having surgery to make their selves feel more comfortable. It is no different than breast implants and all of the cosmetic surgery women get to appear more “female” and feel more attractive. As long as you are healthy GET OVER IT…what do you think people in the past did?
I don’t mind it if you dye your hair, or if you have a abnormally gigantic nose and get a nose job, but our society has gone too far. We are obsessed with our appearances and how others view us. There are so much more important things in the world than using our medical system (which can be used to cure diseases and help those who are suffering) to selfishly spend an enormous amount of money on cosmetic/sex surgery. Actually I think the real problem is in our DEFINITIONS of people. We need to do away with the terms Race, Sex, and Gender. The lines are blurred. None of us are exactly the same.
As a person of mixed race (black and white) I find myself in discussions like these all the time. I am not Black or White. In a simple world, there would only be black and white, male and female. But in our complex world, we are combinations of things.

Transgenders are not gay people. Transgenders are people who are not comfortable in the body they were born in. It’s like a yolk trapped inside a nut when it feels and knows it belongs in an egg. I think it’s damaging to the trans community to sensationalize his situation like this. But nobody can define his gender except him, and those of you who are dead-set on defining him as a woman need to spend some time doing a little research on trans-issues. The person who said that it must be God’s will for this person to birth a child or it never would have happened - I have to take issue with that statement. I don’t think God’s will is for children to be molested - but it happens. I don’t think it is God’s will for people to be murdered at random - but it happens. I don’t think it is God’s will for any number of human tragedies to occur - but they happen every day. I would have to hear another rationale. So just because something happens, we can’t automatically say that “God must have wanted it that way”. Just stick to the facts here - this person is a female who has decided to live as a man - and is now opening his life’s door for everyone to see “his” pregnancy. Hey, this is easier to understand than you think. It all boils down to biology. Let’s look at the big picture: here we have someone who, after having both breasts removed & taking some extra testosterone that caused her to grow body hair, thinks herself to be a dude. Her wife couldn’t get pregnant so they opted for the assistance of a sperm bank. A pregnancy resulted.
Now, let’s look at the biological factor, which is actually quite simple a concept to grasp in this case: she has the XX (female) chromosomes, not the XY (male) ones. She never had a complete hysterectomy OR a fake dick constructed; in other words, she still has her complete reproductive system & female genitalia. Want it bluntly? i’m not a person who judges anyone’s life style choices, i have many gay and lesbian friends, and i am straight. i believe you can get something good out of every creed but i think you shouldn’t over do it. i take things lightly and let people be. im an extremely open minded person, here is my issue with this situation:
i don’t see anything wrong with this “thomas” wanting to be called a man or seen as a man in society, hey, that’s his/her choice and people should respect that. but i also believe that “thomas” should come to grips with reality and understand that no matter how many injections he/she received, or what breast cutting operation he/she had, thomas was naturally born a woman.

I live in the UK and only 23. I have only just seen the footage on the tv. I think it is an a admiral thing what THOMAS done for his family , but most importantly, for his wife.
