A quaint, if somewhat ignorant report published by the United Nations’ International Narcotics Control Board is calling on the governments of Peru and Bolivia to criminalize coca leaf chewing and coca leaf tea making. The report says that “coca leaf chewing should have been abolished in those countries 25 years ago.” The only problem is that the report kinda ignores the fact that indigenous Andean cultures have been chewing coca leaves and making tea out of them for thousands of years. Whoops! Representatives from Peru and Bolivia laughed called the board’s report disrespectful of indigenous traditions. According to the AP:

Coca leaves are still used in indigenous medicine and religious ceremonies. Andean people have chewed coca for thousands of years to stave off hunger and as a remedy for ailments from altitude sickness to stomach aches. Coca tea is served in offices in the Bolivian capital instead of coffee.

Um, everybody knows that coca makes the hunger go away. Just ask any model or dictator! And God knows we couldn’t perk up every morning without our morning coca “tea”.

As I read this there are three small google ads for coca tea on this page, and a link to buy coca plants on ebay, LOL…is that legal? Just wondering…You guys have very peculiar ads, specially the old “Find hot latin babes” ad on the right that has been replaced by a John McCain campaign ad…why do i notice these things???
