Spanish-language network Univision’s “Political Action Committee” recently made a $1,000 donation to Senator Roger Wicker’s campaign, only to ask for their money back once they discovered Wicker’s stance on illegal immigration might not sit well with their viewers. Lucky. Try bringing sexy back without a receipt and see what happens:

According to a Federal Election Commission filing, the money was refunded on March 19 (See this March 18 CandidatoUSA article for background on the Univision PAC’s earlier contribution to another foe of unauthorized immigration, Congressman Cliff Stearns. An NCLR executive said the contribution to Stearns was “reprehensible”).

Univision corporate communications vice president Mónica Talán declined to comment on why the PAC made the contribution in the first place or why it then requested the refund. Talán did say, “there’s no story here.”

Frank Sharry, executive director of pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice, said of the refund “they should ask for money back from anyone who wants to deport their audience.”

The melding of politics and media has never sat well with us, always using up the armrest and whatnot. While we feel it’s generally positive that Univision is trying to better the world, we don’t like the idea of a major media network aligning itself to any political group, mindset or politician. Keep senators off our “Sabado Gigante,” porfa.
