Our fave gay Colombian blogger Blabbeando found a disturbing video on YouTube of some Colombian high school students being taunted by their entire student body after a court order overturned their expulsion from the institution on the basis of their homosexual orientation. In the seriously chilling video above, (seriously chilling part starts about :26 in), the girls are led through the corridors of the school to an open courtyard where seemingly hundreds of their schoolmates chant their disdain for the sixteen and seventeen year-old lesbians:

Shouting “We don’t want you” (no las queremos, which you can clearly listen in the video) and “We want Magola” (queremos a Magola, in support of the high school principal, also seen later in the video), a large number of Leonardo Da Vinci High School Students clearly expressed where their allegiance lied despite the Principal’s reported congratulations to the students on having won the case as they registered for classes (”Leonardo Da Vinci School follows court ruling,” La Patria, April 26, 2008).

The Colombian LGBT rights organization Colombia Diversa has helped the girls through the legal process and a group has been created to support the girls on Facebook. Meanwhile, the girls return to school on Monday.

“Dignidad del colegio,” indeed. And the director of the school? Shame on her.

I teared up watching this. It makes you realize there’s still a lot of work to be done.

    Awful.

Does anyone else find it bizarre that students at the Colegio LEONARDO DA VINCI have a problem with homosexuals? I wonder if students at Colegio Liberace feel the same way.

This young women are so brave to face such a public attack. It is heart breaking that people can still be socially stigmatized for their sexuality. Hopefully those who follow in their footpaths will have an easier time.

I went to school with the principal’s son, who was a good friend of mine. This is so shocking. I can’t believe that my city hosted such a terrible act of hate.
