“Michelina’s” Commercial Makes Us Miss Our Abuelita
9 April 2008, 1:45 PM. By Daniel Mauser
We guess Italian nonnas must have a lot in common with Cuban abuelitas because this commercial (almost) made us want to give our grandmother a call. And reminisce about how she helped foster guilty feelings concerning food! Yay! Pass the tostones!
Do feel free to share your own experiences with abuelitas and food, flaquitos. And eat up!

With my grandma… there was no such thing as no seconds. “A little bit” got you a second plate, and “No thanks” got you another spoonful and a “You’ll eat it!” You were a growing boy, after all.
Unless you were a girl, in which case, I’m not sure why you were eating in the first place. How are you going to get married if you get fat? What? You’re not gonna eat now? Fine… Let this meal I prepared for you go to waste. Ingrate.
Guilt? Are you kidding me?! Practically everything my grandmother cooked was cooked in sofrito, with a side of platano maduro.
well …that is not the story with my grandma, she is MEAN!! and cooks everything needing salt. If you want a bomb ass meal you go to my mom!
In my family she wins for best Posole, enchiladas, chilaquiles, pretty much everything mexican.. even frijoles de la hoya. Everything she makes is THE BEST!!
but yeah when it comes to asking for seconds ..this is what it sounds like “mami me das una cucharada mas…ok mija …no mami dije nomas una cucharada, ay mami me diste mucho! …pero te lo vas a comer TODO.. No.. si o te lo voy a meter por el culo.. [with my head down] ok”
