Morning Ja Ja: Graffiti Artist Tags Yuppie Salsa Dancers
18 April 2008, 11:15 AM. By Guanabee Staff
We snapped this pic yesterday evening while walking through Union Square in New York. (We’re always journalizing for you, people.) At first we didn’t know if the dancers pictured here had written the message at their feet themselves (in case you’re blind, it says, “Gentrification of Salsa” with an arrow pointing at the dancers–click to enlarge) in some fit of performance art, but further investigation proved that a graffiti artist had walked all over the area writing similar witticisms about all kinds of things. A chalk message outside a movie theater a block from these dancers, for example, had a message written on the sidewalk pointing at the door that said, “Because your life is not so interesting.”

Wasn’t salsa gentrified circa 1997? Like around the time “Spice Up Your Life” was released to a salsa beat?
If you can’t dance Salsa on 2 (NY mambo), you’ll be treated like a leper in most gentrified salsa clubs in NYC. If you get approached by a mambo fool at a club, make sure you run in the opposite direction because you just narrowly escaped dancing with a salsa snob. Down with the snotty attitude of NYC salsa/mambo dancers!
how did i miss this on my walk through US yesterday? and i’ve never experienced what zaperoko is talking about.
