We Totally Missed Janitor Appreciation Day
7 April 2008, 11:15 AM. By Guanabee Staff

Ever feel awkward having an hermano or hermana pick up after you while you tap away at the keyboard of your cush office job or head off to class at your finely manicured college campus? This may have been the incentive for the University of Florida Hispanic Students Association to hold their first annual Janitor Appreciation Day last Friday. Surprisingly, though, none of the janitors interviewed in the Independent Florida Alligator article covering the event had Spanish surnames. Either way, it’s a pretty cool idea that, frankly, we’re surprised Hallmark hadn’t thought of first.

Gosh, I had a co-worker once who, upon hearing what College I went to, said “My brother is a janitor there!” That was so awkward…what was I supposed to say? Funny because the “physical plant” employees were supposed to get some sort of tuition break if their kids ever attended the University, which I don’t think ever happened actually…
