We enjoy throwing babies off high towers as much as the next person, so imagine our delight in discovering this hobby of ours is a time-honored custom among Muslims in Solapur, India. For 500 years, this community has tossed babies off a tower and onto a white sheet as a large crowd look on and cheer. But is it really a “bizarre” custom? In certain circles, this would be called “performance art” and the crowd would be made up of boys with ironic mustaches and girls with unironic mustaches.
