In honor of Guanabee being in Texas this weekend for the Pachanga Latino Music Festival, this week’s flatchback is none other than the king of the party weekend Joe “King” Carrasco who invented Tex Mex Nuevo Wavo and then hid it in a box under his abuelita’s house, apparently, because it didn’t exactly catch on. Unfortch, the resolution for this video is not top notch. (It gets better at about 8 seconds in.) We’ll spare your eyes and tell you it’s full of White kids dancing on the beach at South Padre Island, Texas. The song was released in 1983 and was a huge Spring Break hit for at least a ten block radius from Cindy’s house. Enjoy.

Cindy, the song was a hit in SF, I did a two page feature on the King for a Magazine called Avance, at the time. During the recording of his album Michael Jackson came in and did background vocals.
