Dutch model Iekeliene Stange is known as much for dressing like a blind but fabulous Special Needs child off the runway as she is for her talent on the catwalk. The New York Times decided to chat with her about her fashion inspiration — which runs the gamut from Heidi to nerds — and bask in her lovely weirdness:

I like to dress like a different character every day, like Snow White or Heidi. This is my gypsy princess outfit. I think it’s fun. I can’t dress like this back home in Holland, though. There, they laugh at you if you’re wearing big sunglasses. My boyfriend had a pair of big glasses with no lenses that he had worn to a costume party. I started wearing them and got really obsessed. It looks quirky, and you can hide behind them. Most models are trying to look sophisticated — it’s fun to just look like a nerd. But so many people are wearing big glasses that I started to feel a bit silly in them.

It is fun to look like a nerd. When you’re a glamorous fashion model with a BMI of, oh, 2.42. As for her most recent obsession?:

Cat suits. I just ordered a harlequin one on the Internet. I wear them with waistcoats and necklaces and hats. And sequins. Half my wardrobe is all these crazy sequin dresses and leotards.

Oh fucking great. Now we feel totally stupid wearing this sequined harlequin catsuit with quirky oversized glasses to work. No wonder people stared on the subway.

Anyway, yeah. We noticed that big glasses trend (Remember when Ashley Olsen wore them? No? We envy you.) before every emaciated hipster had a pair eating his face. We kind of like it but our face is rather tiny, so we thought it best to stay away. And while we would probably consider donning a harlequin catsuit in one of our frequent, less sober moments, we understand that is basically asking for a cameltoe - and we don’t like letting the general public act as our gynecologist. For free.

Do you have an “iffy” outfit you ever wear just for the heck of it? Cameltoes be damned!

I have a yellow silk frock coat that I wear with almost everything - that red silk dress, jeans and a white pirate shirt…

And, less in the “wear” category, I have tattoos above my eyebrows. They go with everything. At least, I think so.

I dont have one specific outfit but about 80% of the time i dont match.
It’s not because I dont know how, i just dont feel like it. surprizingly though, it doesn’t look bad, or at least i dont think so.

oh and i used to I wear this leather braided headband around my head, which i made. I still use it but not at work because this one coworkers started calling me Pocahontas, and I’ll get in trouble if i tell her to fuck off.
I was once yelled at by my sister for wearing it, she said ‘people are going to think you are a weirdo!’ umm sorry sister too late for that one!

First: According to the NIH, the Overweight category starts at a bmi of 24.9, so 24.2 is actually not that skinny, it’s “normal”. And those models usually have bmi’s under 19 usually.

I once wore the following outfit, in college, about 6 years ago:

Red t-shirt from h&m that featured a car printed on the chest, acid washed jeans, and tan uggs that came up to my calves. I still have flashbacks, ugh.
