Rich, Elitist Latinos Want You To Vote For Barack Obama

As Obama gets ready to garner no votes in Puerto Rico because Latinos hate and fear Black people (What? Black Latinos? Ha! They ride unicorns, right?), a lot of celebrities, some of which we’re not sure are even eligible to vote in the U.S, got together to sing, as Cindy put it, something that sounds “a lot like kumbaya.” Watch for Alejandro Sanz! George Lopez! Paulina Rubio! Jessica Alba and her the child she’s going to bring snarling into this world! And a bunch of other assholes!

(What? Black Latinos? Ha! They ride unicorns, right?)

No, just bored white women.

don’t we all know by now that ‘ricans are as racist as it gets? trust me, i grew up in that island…. even though everyone is a shade of au lait, no one will admit to African roots… look in the mirror people… as the saying goes “y tu abuela , a donde esta?”

I like it but wish they would make an ENGLISH version too. how embarrassing Jessica Alba is the only one who speaks English in that video. Why do they think all Latinos only speak and understand messages in Spanish? I hate that!

it’s not that latinos only understand spanish, but if you don’t understand spanish, you’re not latino. language is culture, and latino is not a race, but an ethnic (cultural) group.
and if you think these people are assholes because they support obama, then you are racist.

latino is a culture and if you don’t understand spanish than you are unfortunately not a part of it. language is a big component of our culture.

George Lopez is an elitist Latino? Really? Wow, that’s news to me. Don’t get me started about some of the other people.

@pija: The “you’re racist if you criticize anything associated with Obama” line is getting old. Stop drinking the Obama Kool Aid. Most of these people are probably liberals (just a guess on my part). And, let’s not kid ourselves, there’s a “cool” factor behind all this Obama support. I’m sure many (most?) of these people have no clue what Obama’s all about. Oh, wait … he’s all about change or something. Right? Who cares about real issues? Information is for suckers! Isn’t that right? Let’s watch Obama treat the American people like their school children. Style over substance is the only way to go. Now, repeat after me, folks:
Yes we can! Yay!

Ok, I just can’t take it anymore. What happened to all the cynics in America? I miss the 90s. I think I’ll watch Reality Bites again.

Anyhoo … What I do find offensive is the strange notion that Hispanics should support Obama because he’s the non-White candidate. THAT is total crap.

paulina rubio? come on….

To say that Obama has no stance on issues shows your (and countless others who make this argument) ignorance of the race. Since his appeal to change is so resonant and inspiring, it often overshadows his agenda. However, his platform has been clear since the first days of his candidacy. I could enumerate the issues, but I will sum them up by saying they are aligned with the standard litany of progressive issues.

Your cynicism is exactly the attitude he is set out to change. While I have not completely drunk the Obama Kool Aid in the sense that I still consider him a very calculating politician that will not be able to enact sweeping change, I do think his freshness and diplomatic personality comprise the type of mindset we need from our leadership at this moment. Peace.

well all i know is i am third-generation mexican-american and i am trying to hard to learn the language in school because my parents never taught me. it’s hard, but i’m giving it all i’ve got. what is ironic is because i am very dark complected, white people often ask me “do you speak english?” just yesterday at the dmv, as a matter of fact. not that it matters in this conversation, i’m just saying that there are many young people like me trying to learn and if they want the message to get across to ALL latinos from all different ethnicities and backgrounds, they will do two versions! stop pourin’ the haterade!

btw: this quote made me get choked up: “but if you don’t understand spanish, you’re not latino”

that’s mean! i wish you knew what it was like to walk in another person’s shoes! people always assume because of my features and dark skin color that i am here illegally. or that i don’t speak english. and because i don’t understand or speak spanish well yet, according to you i am not latino. wtf? IT’S NOT FAIR! it is people like you who make me feel ugly and worthless, i don’t fit in anywhere on either side :-(

so much for showing support. now i am full on crying andmy mom wants me off the computer. laters.

Kids! enough. This is what it comes down to. US Latinos that are 3rd and 4th generation don’t necessarily want Alejandro Sanz or Paulina Rubio telling them who to vote for when odds are they are not citizens of this country. It’s a bit offensive and very self-indulgent. For an amazing slow song , I’ll listen to Sanz, and to score some coke, I’ll check out where Paulina’s party-ing at. I’m glad George Lopez is in the PSA, we always need a good chorizo joke. Why isn’t Carlos Mencia in this? I love that “Beaner-Schnitzel.”

“if you don’t understand spanish, you’re not latino.” really??? really??? that’s just f***ed up… I call people like you a “latino identity snobs” or the “latino identity police”

Where did you get your WRONG definition of “culture”? the “dictionary” you bought at your local swap meet?

A simple search at webster would give you this for a definition of culture: the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group; also : the characteristic features of everyday existence shared by people in a place or time .

As you can see language does not equal culture… it might be a characteristic feature of everyday existence shared by a group of people but that does not equate it to culture.

when did you drop out of school?

By the way… Alejandro Saenz, Pau Pau and Kate del Castillo? Plis… that ‘s offensive.

why hasn’t anyone said anything about the “circle of life” lion king sounding song?

makes me want to puke.

Using Paulina Rubio and company is weird and problematic. I will admit that. But to say that the other people on there are elitist assholes, that’s just plain mean.

Also, Lila Downs is not an asshole! She’s a badass mujer who makes great music.

the term latino does not only apply to those that speak spanish. hispanic does. retards!!!

vivian,

“Hispanic” refers to the Iberian peninsula, hence “Hispanic” does not only refer to those who speak Spanish, but also those Portuguese/Catalan speakers and also to people from the southern bit of France (it’s part of historic Hispania!).

what gets me about us hispanics who feel discriminated because they don’t speak spanish is when they excuse themselves by saying their parents didn’t teach them.

If you grew up in a hispanic household, at least you heard spanish spoken as a kid, meaning you have an ear for it, meaning you’re much further ahead than the anglos who’ve never been exposed to another language in their lives.

But guess what? you have to work at it. take a spanish grammar course at your local college, make it a point to read a spanish-language book once a month. if you don’t put in the work, you’re not going to speak it. but i guess it’s easier blaming mommy and daddy.
