The Met Costume Institute Ball Was Kind Of Boring Except For Anna Wintour’s Galactic Superheroine Outfit
6 May 2008, 11:15 AM. By Daniel Mauser
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s Ball was last night. We skipped it because we’re so busy and popular and had countless other engagements, but it was probably for the best considering most of the attendees seemed to have dressed up in their favorite Jessica McClintock prom dresses. Bo-ring. The ball’s theme this year was “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” which is, incidentally, the theme of every party we have -by ourself on Friday nights-. Vogue’s editor, Anna Wintour, was pretty much the only party-goer who took the theme to heart with, we think, spectacular results.
More dresses, and our reactions, after the jump:
We love this color on Eva Mendes but the dress’ cut weighs her down and, from this angle, the asymmetrical hem is pretty unflattering, making Eva look kind of stumpy. That’s quite a beautiful hairdo, though.
Gisele could wear anything and look stunning and that’s why we hate her. Just kidding! Love the color and the cut, but we’re not going to remember this dress in five minutes.
Oh come on. Beyonce is constantly dressed like She-Ra on the red carpet and now, at a superhero-themed gala, she decides to play it safe? This looks straight-up like a prom dress.
Our favorite dress of the evening. Love the cut, love the red, love how it toes the line between ethereal and dramatic, hate ourselves for typing that last clause. Beautiful.

Anna Wintour’s dress looks like it has ram horns on it. I guess it’s appropriate since the devil wears cuernos.
