Addressing Your Questions/Comments/Concerns About The Guanabee Change Of Life

Hey Guanababies, looks like we have a few questions/comments/suicide threats regarding our earlier announcement that Guanabee is going to the pink side. Change is always scary and we understand your trepidation, but without change we can never grow. And the whole point of building this thing is for us all to grow as a community. So put your little hands in ours and come along as we answer our favorite comments from the announcement post.

If you aren’t giving me the new news in the irreverent style I have grown to like (I find myself laughing less and less), then I won’t even bother anymore. There is so much bullshit out there, so many injustices, so many pompous, boorish, hacky, self-entitled pieces of crap poisoning the air that we breathe (not to mention the culture we seek to maintain and improve upon) that irony and acidity is in high demand. So many deluded and grasping souls deserve to get knocked down a giant peg or three, and I looked to you guys to do it. Improve your writing and your wit, sharpen the tongues, embolden the minds, and I’ll stick to my erstwhile visits. If not, I guess I’ll have to find other distractions, other food for thought.

We couldn’t agree more. Guanabee will continue to give you the smart ass news coverage you have come to expect and we thank you for constantly challenging us to up our game. One way to continue to do that is by leaving extremely witty comments yourselves. Are you up to it?

If by “going the way of Gridskipper” you mean turning into a travel site, then no. You couldn’t be more wrong. If by “going the way of Gridskipper” you mean we’ve been sold. Also, no. If we haven’t guessed what you mean in the above, then please write us again, cuz we have no idea wtf you meant by that comment.

Within my first week of discovering Guanabee it found a home on my bookmark toolbar, and is now one of my favorite sites ever. I love to discover new aspects of my latino-ness and appreciate the unique spin on news and pop culture. “Our Chuleta”- brilliant! But do we need more Lindsay/Heidi/ whatever coverage? No! Stick to what we know and love- immigration, stereotypes, the election, Ugly Betty, fresas. That’s what we’re really here for.

We agree that presenting new aspects of our latino-ness is what makes Guanabee unique. That’s why it will remain our top priority. But believe it or not, Latinos don’t just care about Latino issues. [Ed: You don't say!] In fact, that’s one of the stereotypes we set out to break when we started Guanabee. Like all good Americans, we too care about whose underwear Lindsay Lohan is wearing on her head and which Mousketeer is flashing her chocha on the internet this week. There’s room for both. It’s been that way on Guanabee since the beginning, so really nothing’s changed there. And occasionally we’ll be getting the butch perspective on stories when we share content with our brother site Machochip. It’s going to be awesome, dawg.

Actually everyone’s beats grew organically out of what each writer was gravitating towards over the last year and the bulk of what Alex has been covering since she joined us is celebrity news. So, this is not a change. That said, she will also continue to weigh in with her features on all kinds of topics like the way women are sexualized in the media. Promise!
