Blame Mexico! PR Inside Implies Manuel Uribe Is Happily Scarfing All The Salmonella Tomatoes
13 June 2008, 5:45 PM. By Guanabee Staff

The mysterious outbreak of salmonella-tainted, raw tomatoes that has sickened 228 Americans in 23 states is now being reported by most news outlets as likely coming from one source. (Although we personally think the FDA, like all government institutions, has no fucking idea where any of these things come from and is frankly just thankful that everyone hasn’t dropped dead already from all the rat poop and hormones in our food.) And that source could be Mexico or South and Central Florida which are major suppliers to the U.S. Personally, we have far more documented proof that everything bad comes from Florida, so we’re betting our money there. Either way, stay away from the pico de gallo until this thing clears up. But the really great part of this story is that “news” site PR Inside used a picture of our old friend Manuel Uribe in their Mexico-probably-gave-us-the-dirty-tomatoes story, without identifying him, above a caption that reads:
US salmonella scare halts Mexican tomato exports, floods Mexico with tomatoes
Cuz he’s so fat, get it? They flooded right into his mouth and did a rip curl into his unusually large, Mexican gullet. Mmmm… menudo…

thanks Guanabee.
I will pretend you didn’t make that comment about us Floridians! Also, that is messed up they used that poor guys picture. I saw a documentary on him before and saw how hard he was trying to lose that weight.
What does he have to do with the tomato problem?
Speaking of Mexicans, just figured I should share with you guys that I just had the best Mexican food ever in my new favorite place, La Palapa Cocina Mexicana in NYC (West Village). Most authentic food to touch this palette since I’ve haunted my old favorite joint, Charrito’s in Union City, New Jersey (represent). Not sure if anyone is from around the way, but if you are, I advise that you try it IMMEDIATAMENTE!
Urban Latino: Are you talking about La Palapa Rockola? Their sister restaurant in the East Village is one of my favorite Mexican places in NYC. Have never made it over to the W. Village one.
La Palapa on St. Mark’s had crepas de huitlacoche so good they made me cry.
You mispelled Salmonella in your headline. Slamonella??
