Exclusive Video: Cindy’s Roommate Helped Rey Clarke Climb The New York Times Building
6 June 2008, 1:40 PM. By Guanabee Staff
Yesterday two separate dudes climbed up the outside of the New York Times building. Which got us wondering: Just how easy is it to do that? Turns out, very! As witnessed by the exclusive video after the jump which was shot by Guanabee Editor Cindy Casares’ roommate Monica Escobar who walked her friend Rey Clarke down to the New York Times building in midtown Manhattan yesterday afternoon and shot video of him while he climbed 52 stories to the roof. You might have heard about it. There was a French guy the media calls The Spiderman who scaled it first around noon. Monica’s friend is from Brooklyn and the second guy to climb the New York Times building Thursday. “He’s been talking about doing this to raise awareness about malaria for over a month,” Monica told us. Rey made it all the way to the top of the building before he was arrested and taken to Bellvue Mental Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Monica and their other friend Nick Ruzhnikov, who was also there, believe he’ll be released on bail later today and Nick says he doesn’t think Rey is crazy. Guanabee has secured the only video that exists of Rey Clarke making his way from the ground to the building and up about ten floors. It was taken by Monica with her point and shoot camera before anyone noticed what was going on. The speed with which he scales the building is pretty amazing. Here’s hoping you helped someone, Rey. Even if it’s only our traffic.
Bonus video: Here’s Monica and Nick getting interviewed by CBS news.

Some people are just a little different in the head.
So Rey Clarke would be the Spiderman in the black costume? El Rey! El Rey! El Rey!
let’s use people who climb buildings as target practice for the military. these dumbasses only raise awareness about who doesn’t deserve to live and should be shot.
Monica looks so damn adorable!
@ heston
Wow –you sound like you may be suffering from NY TIMES building climbing envy!
@ guanabee
After Bellevue is done with Rey can you get me an interview with him?
que ridiculo y egoista… he didn’t get any attention as a child or is he just “off”?
gay shrink, i dont suffer from any jealousy at all. these two idiots all are top contenders for a darwin award. why not help them by shooting at them until the fall off, recording that, and making a new installment in the faces of death saga?
@ heston
gee, you’re the one that sounds a bit insane and perhaps eliminating your existence will do the world at large a ton more justice rather shooting people that raise awareness for good causes such as dying babies around the world or even the fact that it’s heating up and will probably drown most of what you know within your lifetime.
What happen, did you get home too late to watch Gilmore girls that night?
Hey, WAKE UP!!
