already it’s a challenge to change centuries of backwards thinking within a culture that opposes most things western, even if we live in western societies, and still consider anglo saxons, westerners, gentiles, jews and whomever else and whatever you want to call them as infidels.

personally, i’m far too western and have strayed too far from the faith to believe in these cultural mores but i can’t even begin to tell you how many women go through this kind of shaming, denigration and humiliation on a daily basis because of this mentality (that being a man’s honour is tied to a woman’s chastity). the horror stories i heard from my aunts and other women in my family as a little girl and was even privy to witness on more than on occasion when visiting the “homeland” left me horrified and vowing to never, ever have any dealings with a muslim man, much less assimilate into muslim culture despite my very muslim last name.

thank goodness there are sensible muslims like Abdelkibir Errami. they make me less scared to stand up and call bullshit.
