The Eyes Have It: This Summer, Show Us Your Peacock
4 June 2008, 1:00 PM. By Daniel Mauser
We’re not huge fans of animal print, aside from limited use in accessories, but we’re not opposed to trying out peacock-inspired clothes and jewelry this summer. It’s bright, fresh and doesn’t have that “Puma on the Prowl” vibe that leopard and tiger prints tend to have, nor that “Kathy’s Kountry Kitchen” feeling we often associate with cow print.
Check out some of our finds for incorporating this new trend into your wardrobe without having to gently disappoint a tipsy sobbing peafowl:
We’re not completely sold on the contrast between the pastel print and all the black in this shoe, but we could see how it’d work in a sort of 80s-throwback way. Think tight, black clothes with candy-colored details and accessories. Or, alternately, white or pale gray skinny jeans (Shut up and hear us out!) with a sweetly-colored pastel polo and black accessories.
We think these offer an absolutely adorable and unexpected way to add color and interest to that futon full of questionable stains from questionable activities that often take place on futons.
We like the peacock feather / teardrop shape of these earrings as well as how it’s not a literal peacock’s feather, only because such earrings tend to look distracting and overwhelming. And we’d rather overwhelm you with how witty we are when drunk until you inevitably run away and we go home alone. Wearing pretty earrings.
Cute Little Crap For Your Hair
God, we love totally superfluous shit like this. We’d wear it with a little black dress, art deco jewelry and no panties.
This is so pretty! We like how it’s a subtle take on the peacock trend in an unexpected color palette. Kind of sweet, kind of psychedelic and will totally look great at some brunch white people are always inviting us to. We’d wear it with strappy sandals and lots of noisy bangles for maximum annoyance when you ask us to pass the organic loganberry preserves hand-plucked by albino Swedish orphans.
