Women In Peru Undergo “Vertical Births”

In an effort to combat high instances of infant mortality, health care workers in Peru’s Cuzco Valley have been encouraging Andean women to give birth vertically in a clinical setting. When we first read “vertical birth” we thought it’d be something that involved a lot of pulley and wires and swings. You know, like conception. But, come to think of it, vertical birthing makes more sense than pushing out a womb troll without the aid of gravity. Watch for yourself.

@ Gwenny: that’s kind of the entire point of the video. its not new, but doctors are trying to get andean women to give vertical birth safely.
Yup, not new, likely something pushed aside by the more “civilized” cultures and thus thrown upon the rest of the world as it was conquered/explored. It’s how things were done in Egypt, they even have a hieroglyph of a lady kneeling with a little head and two arms popping out from under her. They were able to make things last pretty darn well for 3 millennia going through births by that method… it may indeed be something docs want to look into getting back into practice.
I wonder how that woman felt about having a camera shoved in her face while she was trying to push out a baby
