Today, in “happy happy fun news,” 25-year-old babysitter Annette Martinez allegedly raped her 14-year-old charge and is now possibly pregnant with his baby:

Annette Martinez, 25, of the 600 block of Foster Road, was arrested early Tuesday morning after investigators learned that she was having sexual relations with the boy, police said. Martinez is charged with one count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, a fourth-degree felony.

Police detectives learned that Martinez was babysitting the boy and his two siblings since June 1, 2008. Martinez told detectives that she engaged in sex with the boy on several occasions beginning July 8 and, as a result, now may be pregnant, police said. Additional charges against Martinez are pending.

And, again, we have to ask: Why isn’t this called rape anywhere in this report?

Sigh.

We know there will always be a group of reactionary people who will be all, like, “We can’t have our sons become altar boys! We can’t let them join the Boy Scouts! We’ve got to become nervous lest they have blonde, skinny schoolteachers with hyphenated first names! And now we can’t hire babysitters for them!” And, while we’re not mothers or a particularly empathetic individual at all, we feel for parents of young kids, we really do.

So, as a parent, what do you do to ensure your child is always safe? And, uh. Who smiles during their mug shot after being arrested for raping a 14-year-old? Damn, Annette.
