Before You Forget: Latinos Respond To Alzheimer’s Medication The Same As Other Groups
31 July 2008, 6:30 PM. By Daniel Mauser
Good news for Latinoids! Evidently, we respond to Donepezil, a medication for Alzheimer’s disease, in much the same way that non-Latinoids do. A 4-week study comprised of 105 self-identified Hispanics who were administered the drug reacted as positively as other populations who have taken it. How strange, given that we our a unique species flown in from the planet Ytzlcuhuaxulatl (pronounced “Brown”). Sigh:
“A significant number of Hispanics with Alzheimer’s disease remain undiagnosed and untreated,” he said, “and Hispanic participation in Alzheimer’s disease clinical trials is historically low.”
While this is great news, surely, we’re still wondering when this country is going to start to recognize that Latinos are by no means a homogenous group of people and that we have a range of everything from life experiences to racially-specific health needs.
(Although, admittedly, we’re finding that statistic about Latinos and lactose intolerance to be true. TMI?)
