Fashion: It’s Officially A Trend. Men Are Wearing Rosaries Now.
29 July 2008, 2:15 PM. By Guanabee Staff
Third time’s the charm. First Guanabee editor Cindy Casares saw a large group of Hispanic youths in the East Village each wearing multiple rosaries with their otherwise hip-hop garb. Then Cristano Ronaldo was photographed sunbathing while wearing one. (Which would give you weird tan lines, no?) This morning, the young men in the picture at left were spotted on the commute to work. And three makes a trend. As you can see in the picture, wearing multiple rosaries at once seems to be a big thing. Also wooden ones are popular in New York City. What’s weird to us is that the most thuggish looking guys are sporting them when, in the past, they were the domain of the girls and the gays.

what annoys me the most is the fact that hipsters are going to start wearing them and think they’re cool.
I mean, there’s a difference in taking a sacred symbol and making it your own piece of self empowerment, a la Alma Lopez, and using it just for fashion or to be ironic.
Yes, it looks like a necklace. No, it doesn’t go around your neck. Whether you’re Catholic or not, a rosary isn’t jewelry. Also, gangs? Anyone?
Also a trend: bracelets, rings, earrings (ok, jewelry), with the image of La Lupe. But worn by non-Latinos and questionable non-Catholics.
Peolpe have been wearing Rosaries like that for almost 8 yrs now, if not longer.. and it freaked me out the first time I saw it..
well, if Jeebus exists it’ll get caught somewhere and choke them.
