Webster Cook, a college student from Orange County… wait for it… Florida (sigh) has been receiving death threats from Catholics after stealing the Eucharist from a church. For those who don’t know, the Eucharist is a consecrated communion wafer which is believed to have literally become Christ’s flesh. Therefore, it has to be handled very carefully. Dropping it on the floor or walking around with one is a huge no-no. But, then again, so is threatening to smite thy neighbor’s ass with great righteousness.

Webster, who attends the University of Central Florida, claims he took the host in order to show it to a friend. That’s what Google Image is for, Webmeister (Ha! Snort.):

Webster gave the wafer back, but the Catholic League, a national watchdog organization for Catholic rights claims that is not enough.

“We don’t know 100% what Mr. Cooks motivation was,” said Susan Fani a spokesperson with the local Catholic diocese. “However, if anything were to qualify as a hate crime, to us this seems like this might be it.”

We just expect the University to take this seriously,” she added “To send a message to not just Mr. Cook but the whole community that this kind of really complete sacrilege will not be tolerated.”

Yeah! Attach him to some sort of wooden edifice and make an example of him! Do it!

Webster just wants all of this to go away. Especially now that he feels his life is in danger.

Odd, that. This is probably something he should have considered before damning his soul eternally. University officials say he’s not in any official trouble (’cept for that whole Hell thing), but if any group happens to lodge a formal complaint against Webster through the school, he would have to appear before a panel.

Of crying Jesusito statues.

There were no death threats for this buffoon nor weere there any death threats for PZ Myers.

Ther were expressions of anger and warnings of divine retribution, but there are ZERO messages that qualify as “Death Threats”

    You are a pawn.

I am aware this post is 8 months old but just like I happen to come across this blog so will others and so I thought it good to add my two cents here.

If there were death threats against Cook then why didn’t campus police become involved in this matter and investigate it? Why didn’t Cook report it to the police and thought it better to spill this information out into the media instead? There isn’t any newspaper article or media mention of police involvement to be found anywhere.

That Cook has come up with two separate stories as to why he took the host…makes his credibility ZERO.
