New mom Jessica Alba is getting into the swing of summer with… Blegh! That sounded straight out of a fashion mag, huh? Gross. Anyway: Jessica Alba looks kind of hot in a maxi dress and Heidi braids, no? We first wrote about our love of braided hair back in this wildly ignored fashion post and, now that it’s hot as scrotum outside, we think its as good a time as any to rock a hairdo that keeps hair off your face and away from your neck.

We also love that she paired it with what we think is the perfect summer staple, other than popsicle dribbles - the maxi dress. Loose-fitting enough for huge BBQ meals and cool all through August, it’s a pretty great choice.

Check out some of our finds:

Target color block dress - 21.99

Color block dresses that feature a different color along the bust line draw the eye upward to make the wearer look tall and not like a stumpy little elfin creature, like -I- they usually do.

Wet Seal tiered dress - 21.50

The tiers, or layers of fabric, on this dress make it move really nicely when you walk - or run to get the last of the potato salad at your BBQ. The dress’ color scheme — a long column of one, solid color and contrasting, bold color nearer to the wearer’s neck and face — also helps give the illusion of height.

Forever 21 tube dress - 22.80

We love the print of this dress as well as the fact that the ruching of the top portion makes it both comfortable and avoids that little “armpit spillover” that occurs with so many strapless dresses. Don’t even act like you don’t know exactly what we’re talking about.

FYI the Color block dress from target is made for women taller then 5′3″ .. Cause it wasn’t flowy on me it just dragged on the floor, hence making me look like an elfin creature anyway!
