Michelle Palmer Faces Six Years In Dubai Jail For Having Public Sex

With Dubai becoming a popular vacation destination for westerners, this is a cautionary tale: British citizen Michelle Palmer, 30, who lives in the Arab city where she works for a publishing firm, was arrested on July 5 when she was found having sex on the beach. Not the drink, the actual sex. According to local reports, Palmer and her partner, (who at this point is only known to the press as “Vince” the vacationer also from England), were caught once, given a warning and then caught again. Public displays of affection are illegal in Dubai and public sex is punishable up to six years which Palmer fears will be her sentence since the local authorities are wanting to send a message to the flood of westerners invading their city. The Sun is even reporting rumors that the pair got married since their arrest to try and deflect a harsher sentence. Not that we believe in these strict laws, but if there’s one thing we learned growing up on the border of Mexico it’s that you don’t go to a foreign country, blatantly break their laws and then cry about it to your government when you get thrown in a scary jail.

Hooray for the Dubai Police and Justice system! This Brit has a big problem - ignorant of the laws of where she lives and works and being disrepectful to the local authority and her employer. She should be whipped (um, she may like that, on second thought) and jailed for the fully six-year term.

These laws are basically religious. She should have just stayed out of their country. Any westerner who goes to the middle east should understand that they aren’t wanted or welcome and that the mindset is far different from that of western civilization.
Traveler beware.
If you want to enjoy yourself with a woman go anywhere BUT the middle east. I don’t know why any westerner would want to vacation in the middle east anyway, considering the way they treat women. I certainly don’t know why any western woman would willingly go there.
I am from the U.A.E and I have noticed when British citizens come to my country they tend to think they can do whatever they want to.I have seen many British ppl abuse other people and act very indecent after they get drunk.Why only the British citizens???We have other nationalities living in our country but they are not arrogant and disgusting like these ppl when they get drunk.Is it because our govt provides a better salary compared to what they can earn in their own country???and in the end they misuse it and disrespect our religion and country.This is not acceptable!!!
Okay, so let me see if I’ve got this straight.
Woman is a Dubai resident for 3.5 years.
Woman gets drunk.
Woman hooks up with a drunk dude.
They engage in sex on a public beach.
Cops catches them, let’s them off with a stern warning.
Couple decides in drunken stupor to continue having sex on said public beach.
Same cop catches them again having sex on public beach.
Woman assaults cop and calls him a f***** muslim
Woman attempts to hit cop with her shoe
Couple gets arrested
erm…. It doesn’t matter if its Dubai or anywhere else in the world for that matter.. acting like this will land you in trouble 100% garunteed.

This ho woud’ve been arrested in any other country under the same circumstances, not just in Dubai. In fact, those two probably woud’ve gotten much harsher punishment elsewhere than what they got in Dubai. I wud’ve locked their arses up for the full six years.
I think they could have been a little more understanding of this poor girl. I mean look at her picture. I’m sure she doesn’t get laid very often. On the other hand, they should have locked the guy up and thrown away the key for sliding the salame to this heffer.
There’s no way on God’s green Earth I’d find myself in the Middle East, especialy if I were a woman. Even in NY you can’t have sex on the beach, so I don’t understand the Muslim/Islam angle the press is trying to push as if it’s some repressed society. Common sense is universal, it transends geography and religion. These two were horny and drunk and they effed up. Six years in prison is quite harsh though. Fine them, deport them and be rid of them.
How about offering them both public castrations instead of the six years? That would really set an example.
I disagree with the comment about her looks, she is a pretty lady. All women like her need to realize that if people find out she might lose herself sexually and behave like an animal they will lose respect for her.
Also, if I guy wants to get laid he should go straight to western Europe. Austria, Netherlands, France… and leave your hormones at the door.

i saw all your comments on the subject, really i was shocked by the comments from many of you from talking about Islam, middle east, women and ets…
let me tell you one thing, i am an Arab Cristian man living in Dubai from 7 years and i was living in Canada and the states form 18 years and i did not see such respect to the women as much i saw in middle east region, yes there is some people they are out of the rule thats true but they are barley nothing, tell me women how men they are treating you in US, France, Italy , Netherlands, Germany…..?? as nothing, just a body moving and shaking. so let us don’t speak about Muslims and middle east, women.
i know allot of Muslims here they respect me and my wife more than you expect and also i respect the people here they are nice peaceful.
what happened with the guy and the lady is not acceptable all over the world, do you agree on people having sex in you back yard? or in front of you kids on the beach? …… i don’t think you will accept it,,,
guys this i a matter of respect and knowing the law in the country you are living in. and this is every where not only in Dubai.

Some of the above comments simply show the lack of understanding and basic information both about religion and the middle east.
Anti-British sentiment… There is some foundation for local frustration towards the British community. My wife, while conversing with me, was a target of sexual assault from a drunk British person standing behind us (we did not know him, apparently he was married and lived in Dubai). So I know the feeling very well. Not to mention the case of a South African girl that went missing after her drunk British boyfriend beat her nearly to death in a public place and then dragged her by her hair, into his car and drove off. I believe she was found dead.
I still believe such problems occur in every society. Labeling a whole community based on the actions of a few is unjust. Having said that, it is important to mention that such cases have been linked much more to the British compared to any other nationality. Most of these cases are never made public and British people just get off the hook. (As in our case)
As for Michelle….. Public sex is illegal in virtually every country. Every body knows that. In any foreign country, the rules and culture must be respected. She knew the rule but made a mistake of breaking it. It was very nice of the local government to let her off the hook. Her attempting to redo the act is like throwing dirt in the face of local people. It shows utter disrespect for country and its people. They have a right sentence her to the max…as permitted by law.
These ungratefull Arabs wouldn’t even have a country if it wasn’t for the US and UK saving them from the Iraqi invasion. I say every westerner needs to leave the country and the next time they get invaded dial 1-800-phone a friend.

What are all of you talking about? Have you read anything about the case? They were NOT having sex, just making out. Its a peice of crap country that I would never step foot in. Who would want to live in such a armpit of a country with the most ridiculous laws in the world. Of course the women in those countries are so ugly they should cover their faces and not make out in public!
