If you’d gone to Fresa Salvaje’s third anniversay shindig at Studio B last weekend, you’d have caught Kumbia Queers doing their thing, complete with sailor hats and a giant plastic microphone. The all-girl, all-queer band performs cumbia covers to songs by such diverse artists as Madonna, The Ramones and Black Sabbath. They add their own tongue-in-cheek lyrics, complete with puns and girl-crazy rhymes. Give a listen to “Chica de Calendario” and see if you’re not instantly dancing around your room like a maniac.
