Hey everybody, did you see the big, Yankee, liberal, elitest attempt at political satire yesterday that has seriously pissed off all the Democrats? It’s the latest cover of The New Yorker magazine featuring an illustration of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama dressed as a Muslim terrorist and fist bumping, (that’s terrorist fist bumping, in case you’re slow, or from Texas), his wife Michelle who is strapped down with ammo like Pancho Villa while a framed portrait of Osama Bin Laden hangs over an American flag that burns in the Oval Office fireplace. But before you get your blue panties in a wad, a word of defense from The New Yorker editor David Remnick as told to the Huffington Post:

This is saying a particular thing at a particular time, when these imaginings and dark fantasies and misconceptions about Obama exist. And we’re putting it all together in one image and holding a mirror up to it and showing it for it for the absurdity that it is.

So, you were being facetious? Ohhhh. We’re still catching on to this East Coast, liberal humor. Blame the public schools in Texas. You know what they say. You can take the brown people out of the kitchen…

I always thought there was something off about me because I didn’t think any cartoon in the New Yorker was funny, until Seinfeld did an episode where none of THEM could figure out what was so funny about the freakin’ New Yorker cartoons.

But this one goes outside the box of their normal dogs-on-psychiatrist couches (yuk yuk yuk). IF the New Yorker thought they were doing brrrriliiant satire, their humor skills have really advanced from clueless to senile. The great fact of this nation of ours is that people take things at face value . . . even authentically brilliant satire like “All in the Family” was embraced by portions of America because they agreed with Archie Bunker. But this thing here isn’t even good satire; it’s evidence that Karl Rove is the new hire at the Old Yorker.

I fart in their general direction.

I don’t think its Brilliant. I think its really stupid. There is nothing insightful, thought provoking or debatable about this depiction. It is blatant, obvious, immature, predictable and predjudice. It is anything but satirical because these are the known prejudices that America already has about Obama. Whether you are a supporter of Obama or not, every American should be highly offended by this derogatory commentary that only serves to encourage prejudice and anit-american emotions. New Yorker should stick to literary commentary and stay out of politics.

By definition: Satire is a Literary work intended to ridicule and scorn. Well, THIS is not a literary work.It ridicules and scorns but not with thought provoking and intelligent or insightful commentary, but instead with a disrespectful drawing. This is a sarcastic and insulting caricature that shows great disregard for our political structure and plays directly into the fear-mongering idiots that make this country so predjudice.
This issue of New Yorker should be taken from the newsstands!!!!!!!! Sacasm is a poor excuse for a lack of sense of humor. And the New Yorker has clearly lost its sense of humor on this one. Find something that is truly funny to depict.

maybe the New Yorker should have put a caption on the cartoon indicating what it meant, for those not sophisticated enough to figure that out for themselves!

    Ray,

The problem is when those not sophisticated or educated enough are the ones with the political mass vote at their disposal.

Nowhere is this truer than on the last couple of elections. Take a look at the correlation between voting and average IQ level. :-)

This was aimed at Obama’s critics, but ended up hitting Obama. Oh well, shit happens in satire. You move on.
