Local Greeley, Colorado newspaper The Greeley Tribune is reporting that an arrest has been made in the case of murdered, transgender, twenty year-old Angie Zapata. During a press conference yesterday, (viewable after the jump), Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner and Weld District Attorney Ken Buck reported that Greeley police identified Allen Ray Andrade, 32, who was arrested early yesterday morning in Thornton, Colorado when police there responded to a noise complaint coming from a car and discovered Andrade inside Zapata’s car, which had been missing since her murdered body was found last week in her apartment. In court affidavits, Andrade admitted to beating Zapata with a fire extinguisher after he discovered she was transgender. The two had been dating. Formal charges will be filed in 48 hours when we learn whether this will be pursued officially as a hate crime.
