Want My Baby Back, Baby Back: Pole Dancer Arrested In Chile

chilean_pole_dancer.jpg

A stripper was arrested in Santiago, Chile for attempting to remove her clothing in front of the presidential palace after performing strip tease acts on the local metro. Why? To challenge the prudishness of Chilean society. Honestly, we’d probably not be too happy with having a stranger’s pasty in our eye while trying to commute to work. But maybe we’re just prudes:

Ms Morilles, 26, called her performances “happy minutes.”

What a coincidence! We’ve been happening to something as “happy minutes” a whole lot lately. Joke!

A professional pole dancer, she boarded the train at one station, and stripped down to skimpy underwear in time to exit at the next station.
“This is just a beginning. We are starting an idea here that will grow and be developed further,” she told Reuters news agency as she was being taken into custody.

Great.

We think there’s a way of counteracting restrictive or dated ideas on sex and sexuality without actively trying to piss people off. If people are happy and secure acting “like prudes” or holding conservative ideas about sex, why should anyone else care? Besides, when it comes to promoting a healthy and empowering view of sex as far as women are concerned, acting out a machista fantasy in a machista society isn’t really doing away with any stereotypes. And we’re not sure using the female body as a weapon and unwelcome intrusion into people’s daily routine is the most effective means of sending a message other than: “Look at me! I am naked! Look at me!”
