It turns out we’re not the only ones who approach the prospect of the impending Beverly Hill Chihuahua movie with tears and uncontrollable shaking. Scores of other people are embarrassed and confused by the movie’s massively cringe-inducing trailer, too! The New York Times even wrote a trend piece on all the reaction videos to the trailer currently posted on YouTube:
Walt Disney Pictures over the last two weeks has been running a trailer for the live-action family comedy in conjunction with “Wall-E,” the Pixar film about a lovable robot. The trailer depicts several dozen computer-generated chihuahuas performing a Las Vegas-style showstopper, dancing in formation and wearing elaborate headdresses.
“We’re the real hot dogs,” they sing. “Yo! Hold the bun.”
A small but growing number of YouTube videos depict people reacting in horror to the jubilant trailer. One woman, sitting with her Yorkshire terrier on her lap, pretends to gag, then protectively covers her dog’s eyes. In another video, two men look at each other in disgust and then one slips a noose over his head.
We feel that. Funny how Disney’s 1988 animated film, Oliver and Co., which also featured a talking chihuahua, somehow avoided inspiring people to take their own lives. Not having had YouTube at the time, we guess we’ll never know. Grab some rope, a sturdy chair and check out some of our favorite Beverly Hills Chihuahua reaction videos:
“Gigglechick” is mentioned in the NY Times article, too. Her reaction is funny and her dog just neutered itself.
This man promises to eat a chihuahua if the movie happens to have any redeeming value. Anyone else beginning to suspect this is a brilliant viral marketing campaign for the film and subsequent chihuahua merchandise? Because now we, too, crave a hot dog made entirely of chihuahua. It seems he has one behind him in this video, no? Share?
This small child is horrified and confused yet professes a desire to see the movie. RESIST BECOMING A MINDLESS SLAVE TO LARGE CORPORATIONS AND TERRIBLE ENTERTAINMENT, SMALL HORRIFIED CHILD!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua is the new 2 Girls, 1 Cup.
I’ve had too much fun showing this clip to friends. Most think it’s fake until they see the website, then they’re perplexed as to why Disney would even make this film.

So glad to see this b/c I wasn’t sure if I was the only one that was still cringing about this preview 10 days after first seeing it. Really all I could think was WTF and then the very obvious follow up, which was this is really very very racist.

Okay, I’d never seen the trailer before, and that was the perfect way to be exposed to it! I am still laughing my head off!
I’m gonna have to go back and look at the regular trailer, but that big “cake” dance sequence on the pyramid totally cracked me up … not to mention the two guys’ reactions to it.
Maybe I’ll find the thing hugely racist in its normal incarnation, but I’m usually a big fan of clueless excess.
Do you think, perhaps, that the chihuahua stands up for Latino rights at the end of the film?
Update: Okay, I just watched the “straight” clip, and I have to admit it does leave a bad taste in the mouth. BUT, when it first turns into an “Aztec” production number, it’s pretty damn funny, y’all.
But, really, it’s funniest watching my compadres’ reactions to it. (Here’s another guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWBfuauqsmw&NR=1)
Yeah, I know it’s not a great advancement for dignity. But at least the chihuahua isn’t a maid or a gardener.

Camaraderie in Disney-torture as we like to say.
