Belinda Would Like You To Know She’s A Virgin, We’d Like To Know How That’s Relevant

Does Belinda have an album coming out soon or something? Why the sudden deluge of Belinda stories hurled our way, on camera, to MIDI tunes? The singer had recently been robbed amidst allegation that her parents had planned to steal some of her things — including allegedly pornographic material — in order to scare her into moving with them to Spain. However, she’d like to set the record straight and have you all know that no such material can exist because she’s a virgin:

“I have nothing to hide. There’s no sex tape with me and some guy doing anything lewd, so I’m not even worried about that. I’m only worried about my family, who is most important in all of this. My parents raised me well, and I would never shame them like that, or make a video like that,” she told a Mexican magazine, adding that she was still a virgin.

“I’ve never even been intimate with anyone to be quite honest. Believe me, I haven’t even gotten to that stage yet. If I’m going to be with someone, I want to be in love with that person, and when that happens, don’t worry, I’ll let you know,” said the “Bendita mentira” songstress.

Um, TMI? We’re so tired of hearing young singers and actresses discuss the states of their hymens. If it’s not our business what was stolen from your house or what your dress size is or who you’re dating, why is it any of our business whether or not you’ve pulled a train on an entire Mexican soccer team? We’ve seen what happened with the images of publicly-professed virgins like Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus. Even saying “I don’t have sex” allows people to equate your image with, well. Sex. We don’t particularly find any shame in being either a virgin or someone with a whole lot of sexual experience. And we’re not sure it should be up to celebrities to teach their young fans about sex - whether the message is that they should be waiting for it or having lots and lots of it at every opportunity.
