Culture
Hey remember the character of Puppet from American Me? What about Chuco from Boulevard Nights? Yeah, us either, but apparently some people in that part of the world do. Fifty one-year old actor Danny De La Paz, who played both pachuco-like characters, gets asked all the time to attend lowrider conventions and tattoo shows as far away as Japan. So someone at the Arizona Republic decided to do an interview with him that made us kind of sad. Why? Because Danny who, "had a Wonder Years style upbringing in a middle-class neighborhood in Whittier, Calif., where he studied theater in high school and listened to Dodgers' games on the radio," feels he really didn't know his culture until he started playing pachucos in the movies. Really? That's our culture now? Not only that, but despite his many roles opposite actors like Sean Connery and Woody Allen, the only image that people laud him for is that of a tatted up pachuco. So much so, that he decided to get two tattoos for himself. Saying--you guessed it--"Chuco" and "Puppet."
Oh and also, he's a big mo. Which means he's just like half the other struggling actors in Hollywood. Not the homeboys of East L.A. But at this point it seems the image has swallowed up the actor.
