Falling Face-First In Love: Same-Sex Marriage PSA

We’re not quite sure what to think about this PSA from “Equality California.” The premise is this: A young woman faces several small obstacles on her wedding day. Eventually, she ends up on the floor in the middle of the aisle, looking up forlornly at her husband-to-be while the viewer is asked how she would feel is she were kept from marrying the person she loves.

On one level, aw. But, to answer the PSA’s question, well. We feel that we’d pick ourselves off the floor and continue our way down the aisle because tripping on some vieja’s cane is not going to stop us from getting married. We’re not sure then, how equating breaking one’s shoe or losing one’s veil of face-planting in front of the altar really compares to being told, over and over, that you’re immoral and a criminal for loving the person that you do. However:

Does anyone else find it interesting that the bride “looks Latina” and the groom doesn’t? We have to wonder if that was a deliberate choice on the director’s part and, if so, ooo! That does add quite another level to the question asked at the end. But, we’d love to know: What do you think about this ad? Is it effective? Simplistic? And did you read anything into the perceived ethnicities of actors cast?

Comments

I can only wish someone had tripped me when I was walking down the aisleback in the day however, I lived to tell the tale.
Lesson learned? You can’t be the baby if you have a baby.
