This thing looks like a dog at first glance, but check the snout in that freeze frame. That is no dog, its the Chupacabra! What’s more, it looks remarkably like the thing that washed up on shore in Montauk, NY last month. Could this be end times? Or just the greatest viral campaign to ever hit America?
There’s video after the jump shot by a deputy-in-training from Dewitt County, Texas, home of Cuero, Texas aka home of the chupacabra! He says this creature is a chupacabra. And when a Dewitt County deputy-in-training speaks, we think you all know what that means. Sheck it:

Actually, I think it would be better known as “Cuero, Home of Mutant Coyotes And A Wicked Speed Trap”. I swear, it has to be the slowest freakin’ spot on 183 between I-10 and I-37 when going from Austin to Corpus Christi (or back). But they do sell cane sugar Dr. Pepper in 20 oz. plastic bottles at the convenience stores there (and in Gonzales, and at the Loves on I-10 in Luling), so they get extra credit on that.

That thing is a warthog.

I have seen a lot of animals, but never one quite like this. Makes you wonder!
Posted by Lisa Jo Ray | August 12, 2008
Dang! I’m from Texas, and even though Nashville’s my home now, I’ve NEVER seen anything like that!! No wonder we celeb-bashers call evil stylist Rachel Zoe “The Chupacabra”. Goat sucker of starlets…seducing them into Nicole Ritchie-like starvation. Or the new craze…Pregorexia! Yikes!
Posted by snarkista | August 12, 2008
I’m stumped. What would you serve that thing with, red wine or white?
Posted by Stuart Reb Donald | August 12, 2008
@Stuart Reb Donald: Lone Star, obvs.
Posted by La Cindy | August 12, 2008
Uh, if I know anything from growing up Mexican, that is a damn dog/wolf hybrid mutant thing. And don’t they look goat-y, hence Chupacabra? And with a little spine thingy going down its back?
I’m led to believe real ones look like so.

aww, that makes me sad. I saw this last week on TV, and there was a DNA test done, and it’s a canine. no story here. move along. now that the montauk monster has been revealed to be a prop from some horror film w/ Rob Schneider, all our cryptids are gone. GONE.
Posted by chupachup | August 12, 2008
@ La Cindy. I would recommend a Shiner Bock, a refreshing taste to wash down something that gamey looking.
Posted by Janie A Go-Go | August 12, 2008
@ chupachup:
Aren’t all Rob Schneider movies horror films?

@Stephen: You may comment when you show signs of intelligence yourself. Here’s your sign.

That is an interesting creature. It is not quite a dog, and yet from the back resembles the dog family. This may be a new one for us, but I bet the scientists know more about this creature. As long it does not bite or hurt anyone that is good. Should you let it just run wild?
Posted by puppydazzles | August 14, 2008
Is it a wild animal? Should it not be shooed away from the public? I would hate to see it hurt or kill anyone. Having it in custody will give you the chance to study it further.
Posted by puppydazzles | August 14, 2008
attn: chupachup You’re wrong. the one that they did dna testing on was another one. it turned out to be a mangy coyote. this one got away. keep your facts straight. keep hope alive!
Posted by Bobby | August 14, 2008

Posted by Ben | August 14, 2008

Posted by CT | August 14, 2008
Can’t be a hog of any kind. It has paws, not hooves.
Posted by murr | August 14, 2008
Chupacabra remains have been tested and found to be probably a dog/coyote hybrid. Or an alien creature of some type - not!
Posted by Steve | August 14, 2008
YOU GUYS HAVE SEEN NOTHING YET.I AM A REAL ALIEN AND WE ARE TIRED TO LIVE UNDERGROUND THE NEXT ANIMAL YOU GOING TO SEE IS A VERY STRANGE CREATURE THAT FLIES.DO NOT HARM US OR UL BE REGRET YOUR WHOLE LIFE.

Posted by GSDGFSDGF | August 14, 2008
It’s just a coyote with a skin condition, like mange, causing a lot of hair loss.
Posted by mar | August 15, 2008

This animal is known as kazaki. i use to have them in my backyard but then it disapeared. I just found it here. oh my poor kazaki
Posted by kazaki nazi | August 15, 2008
Sorry guys, being realistic. that is “not’ a warthog. I have hunted warthogs many times. That is NOT even close to being a warthog or a hybrid coyote or dog.
Its definitley a Old breed of Canine animal. It moves like a canine with its loping motion. Its amazing something like this can remain hidden for all these years. Dont’ know if its the Chupacabra or Not, but it sure is something that we have never seen before.
Late!

I thought only steers and queers came from Texas….Looks like there may be more….If the damn rednecks and illegal immigrants would quit letting their dogs breed faster than they do (or AS fast as they do) you probably wouldn’t have as many mutated animals as you do. Just goes to show you though…..Chupacabra…..it’s what’s for dinner…..and could be the next white meat.
Bon Appetite’

It’s a small to medium sized dog with a mask

I think the deputy’s own suspect genetic make up and his haircut disqualify him as a wildlife commentator due to the potential conflict of interest.

If that’s a coyote (or any kind of canine), I wouldn’t be having hometown pride like those guys. I’d be testing the water.

Posted by Kelli | August 25, 2008
Photoshopped!
Posted by frodo | September 13, 2008
Weird. There’s definitely something out there breeding true to form. There’s just too many of them all looking alike to be some aberrant isolated case.
Posted by Colin | September 27, 2008
THAT THING IS A DOG AND EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT
Posted by Marisela | October 13, 2008
Even if it is some form of wild dog dose not meenit is not unknown. No one knowes what the Chupacabra is, it may be a form of wild dog. That dose not make it less unreal. After all Okapis where thote to be fake but they are most certinly real zoos have them on exibit. Oh and there is know way it is a wart hog from some one that has stood next to a warthog there is nothing simller what so ever other then the nose.
