Oh, poo. No one wants to go halfsies with Hugo Chavez on Danny Glover’s new film about Haitian patriot Toussaint L’Ouverture. Remember the sweetheart deal that’s been in the making since last summer? But Danny doesn’t think it’s because Hugo Chavez is a crazy bastard that even Naomi Campbell doesn’t want to fuck. He says it’s because the movie houses are all a bunch of white supremacists.
“Producers said ‘It’s a nice project, a great project… where are the white heroes?” he told the press during a stay in Paris this month for a seminar on film.
“The first question you get, is ‘Is it a black film?’ All of them agree, it’s not going to do good in Europe, it’s not going to do good in Japan. Somebody has to prove that to be a lie! Maybe I’ll have the chance to prove it.”
Or maybe Don Cheadle already proved it in Hotel Rwanda and your current backer is scary, little, red man? Also, if history serves, your movie won’t do well with Latinos, either. They’re very racist.
