Sarah Palin In Vogue Magazine: Vague On Issues, But Totally En Vogue!

Did you know Sarah Palin, the woman who might be this nation’s next -top model- Vice President, was once interviewed for Vogue? We did! And didn’t care! But apparently this is a huge deal to a lot of people. Well, Hillary Clinton landed the cover of the much-venerated fashion magazine back in December of 1998 but, like. Who gives a shit? Not a huge amount of people were Googling “Hillary Clinton Vogue” when she announced she was running for President of the United States. Because Sarah Palin is what is commonly described as “cute” or conventionally “pretty.” And Hillary is not.

And that’s fine. Palin’s looks will work to both help and hinder her throughout her political career. But we can’t help but wonder whether Palin’s palatable looks were about as important in McCain’s decision to include her as his running mate as any of her personal stances on political issues - especially since so many of her take on topics of interest to the American people remain unknown.

hillary_vogue_8.29.08.jpg

Assuming McCain was dead-set on picking a female VP, why not pick a woman who was more well-known or whose had more political experience than being a mayor of a small town and the governor of a state that’s never had to deal with things like, say, immigration, in any meaningful capacity?

We realize, of course, that there are lots of reasons why Palin was chosen. But the American public will be (And are.) terribly interested in looking at images of Palin, even as they scratch their heads and ask what polar bear she blew up in the Arctic Reserve to nab that VP nomination. And, Jesus, we could barely stomach the media’s inane babbling over Hillary’s haircut and pantsuits or listening to “Isn’t She Lovely?” play as Michelle Obama wrapped up her speech at the DNC. We cringe in advance at how Palin’s going to be represented and discussed as the election wears on. Cringe with us, please:

sarah_vogue_2_8.29.08.jpg

She’s well suited for the magazine, attractive as she is accomplished. The 43-year-old Palin’s high cheekbones could rival any runway model’s; she’s well-dressed, and often wears her brown hair with gold highlights fashionably swept up.

In a state where residents are not shy about voicing their political opinions, Internet blogs also don’t ignore this aspect of the current occupant of the governor’s office. One proclaims Alaska and Palin “Coldest State, Hottest Governor.”

Thank God it’s a long weekend. We’ll spend it sleeping, berry-picking and dreaming about Hillary Clinton, Cindy McCain, Michelle Obama, Jill Biden and Sarah Palin holding a press conference addressing sexism in the media. And then waking up to a brand new work week, energized and ready to laugh off our adorable, girlish naïvité.

    I don’t think she’s pretty.

This reminds me of an argument against Sylvia Plath’s popularity. A male critic dismissed her poetry saying she was only popular she killed herself and was marginally attractive. I don’t think Sylvia Plath is particularly pretty.

I would complain about sexism and women being relegated to “ugly” or “passable”, but when John Edwards first appeared in 2003 he was pretty much dismissed as a pretty boy.

Theory: People hate pretty women politicians, love pretty male politicians until they’re involved in a National Enquirer scandal.

Sure she’s pretty and yeah she’s smart. I’m sure there’s a lot to this woman, but that isn’t really the issue. She’s being used for ‘posturing’ McCain’s campaign. Is it a coincidence that the morning after Obama’s outstanding speach to the nation, McCain announces that he’s selected a mother of five who owns a float plane, eats mooseburgers and hunts, as his running mate? Is he trying to appeal to the rest of the ‘down to earth’ moms out there who might be sitting on the fence since HIllary isn’t available to us? Or was this for pure shock value? I’m an Alaskan, living in Juneau and I’m a single mother of three beautiful children and you couldn’t have paid me enough to vote for Palin as our Governor, let alone VP of our nation. She has no experience in the legislature and very little experience in the governor’s office. She’s not qualified for the job, and it makes me wonder why this decision wasn’t made for the right reason, and the only reason, because she would be good for our country. No she wouldn’t and she wasn’t chosen based on those merrits. Very dissapointing McCain!

Mary Dornbirer-Juneau Alaska………She has done more good for this state in the last year than anyone has. So far her record does speak for itself and experienced or not she has not renigged on anything that she has set out to accomplish. That speaks volumes about her. America is tired of the people who say the pretty things but don’t follow through. It’s about time we have someone that will take a stand and does understand.

As far as the person that left the comment about immigration………well, Alaska does have a big problem with it and yes it is an issue. Sarah Palin is not going into this blindly. Just because people are ignorant and think Alaska is its own country does not mean that we do not experience the same issues as the other states. By the way we are part of the US. And no, we do not ride on the backs of moose.

She is not just a pretty face. She actually does have brains upstairs. It definately beats the alternative and good for you McCain. Its about time someone takes a risk for a country that is so worth it. Lets gain back that integrity and fight and move forward. GOD BLESS THE USA

Fortunately, Palin has the executive experience–making decisions constantly every day–and has not been a senator before (has not been polluted by having to cut all those deals). Then there is Obama, who has spent practically his whole time (150 days or so) in the Senate running for president. He should have followed his gift and become a motivational speaker. And why is he pushing through a world poverty bill that will cost us $845 billion dollars over 13 years and will be handled by THE U.N.???!!!
    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56405
Couldn’t he just send his long-lost half-brother in the African hut some of the money from his book deals? The U.S. already sends a lot of aid oversees and this would be on top of it–and, again, distributed by the U.N.! How does this help our fiscal crisis? And what does this say about his judgment. Palin is without platitudes and makes sure the taxpayers get back the surplus, instead of thinking up more ways to spend our money. Exactly what we need. Obama talks the talk–CHANGE–and then picks BIDEN. I’d say that with Palin (far from DC and the “bridge to nowhere” earmark buster), McCain walks the walk.

I think that McCain just shot himself in the foot! Palin has absolutley NO experience in foreign relations, and is a nobody in the world of politics ! I know she is a well respected Governer in Alaska, and she is a “Pretty Woman” but we dont need a pretty woman in office, we dont need a beauty pagent “runner-up”, we need a strong minded committed person that is ready to take the Helm of office in case our president cannot perform his duties. what if McCain did win (which he wont) and suffered a severe heart attack, or his cancer returns, you think we are ready to have a commander in chief who “Looks” good, but has no idea what it is like to battle in Iraq? Afghanistan? or any other country we might end up in over the next few years? dont forget N. Korea and their issues at stake….Oh wait, maybe she could put on a pretty dress or mini skirt and persuade the N. Koreans with sex appeal…yeah that might work!
This choice of his is totally ridiculous and does nothing for his campaign except makes it easier to look at them on the podium.
we need Barack Obama, we need Joe Biden, we need change! Why the liberals question Palin, please roll out Obama’s laundry list of accomplishments, bills that he’s actually passed that “CHANGED” (remember that word you love) people’s lives…….I’m waiting………..still waiting………let me know………even Joe Biden couldn’t list anything, because he is an Empty Suit with nothing but hot air words that contradict everything he says. Palin’s got accomplishments and a record to look at as a reformer (for you liberals, you know what a reformer is?

So you’ll be taught……reform = change (you love that word don’t you) in the orthodoxy and shake up. She’s gotten the corrupt Alaskan Republican party out of there, vetoed more than 300 wasteful bills in her first year in office, cut taxes on all Alaskans by taking on oil corporations (the ones Liberals revile and bash to death), balanced the state budget, not a Washington INSIDER which is the most important thing, she’s made more enemies from the Republican establishment in Alaska that wants to get her out by any means…I love that, ……..meanwhile……”Zeus” Obama has spent more time running for President than currying his duties in the Senate, that’s is a disgrace and sad if it wasn’t true but it is. You have 2 reformers who aren’t afraid to fight their own party and take chances and you have on the other side……well, someone who talks a good game butnothing with meat on it to show for it, just platitudes, vagueness, no DETAILS on anything and some other guy who blasted the guy he’s with as someone who has no qualifications and no right to the job LOL, freaking hilarious. 2 people that are 100% beholden to the far left of their party, is scared to challenge them on anything. That is NOT CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN, because they themselves DON’T BELIEVE IN IT. No core values or principles, Obama-Biden is 100% beholden to the far left by their speech rhetoric that is always the same every 4 years except when Clinton ran.

One who is all talk and nothing to point to say “I passed this and it changed things, it made a difference in people’s lives and the other who’s been in Washington for 30 years and well, not much for him but I give a little credit he has more of a record to look at than “Zeus” Obama. And here’s another thing, I find it very interesting how the liberals all of a sudden love the Clintons. Very interesting, if you had scoured the message boards like I have, and believe me I do, all last week especially Monday and Tuesday you saw postings “Fuck the Clintons, they have been against Obama, they are trying to sabatoge them”….that’s all you read from them, they hated the Clintons, the Hillary supporters with mentally sick vitriol. Then as usual, the Clintons have to come in and save the day for the Empty suit and his zombies and now they love them “I love the Clintons, oh my god did you hear those speeches, well done, Bill you can suck my cock”…..yes, these are the mentally deranged liberals response I read throughout that you can just laugh at these pathetic humans

. For some reason, they actually believe the Clintons want Obama to win. You know why the Clintons have been the only Dems in that White House for over 20 years don’t you? They are CENTRISTS. Not far left liberals like you are. They realize you must be centrists for Dems to ever have a chance to win. You’ve done nothing but replace John Kerry who had the exact same policies as Obama and replace him with an African American candidate Obama who has better oratory skills.

You’re trying to get a Liberal version of Bill Clinton with I’ll admit nice oratory skills who is black into the WH….but it won’t work. Clinton is a Centrist. It’s no wonder he takes cheap shots at Obama when he’s not looking and that the Clintons secretly say that he will lose……..they know exactly why. I’m moderate myself, I voted for Clinton because he was a Centrist. I will vote for McCain-Palin because I like reformers, those are real change agents, not a 100% beholden to extremes. These are the only 2 real change candidates in the election. Not the 2 frauds who are using the word as their mantra but don’t have the beef behind it, the evidence, the substance that you can show me to my face with results that I can look at and judge.

A senator experience is a boxed experience. It is not a practical experience. A Governors experience is practical while dealing with the populace. If this lady was a mayor and subsequently a Governor she sure can perform better as a vice president than the senators. I think she is going to be a formibadable vice president.

Here is what is weird about the VP selections this year… The President is supposed to be senior in experience to the VP. The president should pick a junior politician to mentor as VP in order to ensure that the president’s will is followed and to grow the party. .

The democrats got it all mixed up this time… They picked the least qualified candidate to try to run our nation and paired him with the older, more experienced (read as better qualified) VP. Do you think Biden will sit back and impliment every freshman mistake that Obama’s inexperience dictates? No way. Biden will not be taking leadership notes when Obama is in office, he will be giving them. Obama’s lips will move but they will be Biden’s words. The next step will be to plop Obama on Biden’s lap and see if Biden can drink a glass of water.

If Obama was president, then it would be like the boy king who had to be groomed for the mantle of leadership by a cadre of experts, many of whom would be infinitely more qualified to be king. Obama will spend a good portion of his first years in office, just learning how to be president. We might need change, but we don’t need it bad enough to turn on a leadership vacuum.

When a sports franchise is having troubles, then they scrub their roster, tell their fans that they are sorry but don’t worry, season tickets will be half off until we are done with our rebuilding year. Obama started his political career in the house of Bill Ayers, a domestic TERRORIST…….an enemy of the United States of America…….he said he didn’t do enough, he wanted to kill more Americans……Obama called Ayers “Mainstream, part of mainstream America”. That’s why people question Obama’s sincerity in this country. Someone who wants to run for President of the United States is friends with a terrorist who wanted to destroy America? Can you get that through your heads? Ask yourself if you are thinking of voting for Obama: Can I live with myself and sleep at night knowing I voted for someone who thinks a domestic terrorist and his actions were “mainstream”……why kind of conscience do you have? When I learned that, he disqualified himself from ever getting my vote. Even if I was to agree with him on 100% of the issues, I would never forgive myself to vote for that kind of person……NEVER. I would call myself an “enemy of America” if I did. I won’t be doing that, because I never forgot 9/11 and what happened to us. I sincerely hope Americans wake up and realize that when they go into the voting booth. It’s really a shame the media isn’t paying more attention to this 1 issue. I find it laughable that the Obama camp would even THINK to call to question Sarah Palin’s experience! Her laundry list of accomplishments is impressive and she has fought corruption at an executive level. The Obama machine’s argument is “she is a mayor from a small town.” Sure, that’s where she started, but isn’t that more impressive then the Presidential candidate on THEIR ticket who started as a “community organizer” (still have no idea what that is). The truth is, there has never been a candidate to win a major party nomination who has escaped appropriate and responsible examination like Obama. His ties to extremist individuals (a “former” terrorist, and and a racist minister) and groups is documented, yet the media has fallen all over themeselves to sweep it under the carpet. Obama has worked hard to create an image as a “reformer” and campaigns under the rally call of “Change we can believe in”. Really? Don’t you think if Obama really walked the walk as a crusader for change, he would have started in Chicago - and taken on the corrupt members of the machine politics there? But, wake up people - he didn’t!! Instead, he has BACKED the deeply corrupt politicians there - even when BOTH parties were fighting for CHANGE.
It is shocking - really shocking - that just becuase of his racial pedigree - the Democartic party has irresponsibly nominated a man that has no track record of accomplishment and boasts political and personal ties that call into question his personal integrity. Wake up America! Don’t believe what the media spoon feeds to you - care enough about your country and ALL of our children to find out the facts on your own. Obama is not the messiah, a greek God, a ROCK STAR, or the great beacon of hope that the Demorcratic party and liberal media presents to you. She is independent, she will do what is right for the people who vote for her, she will put the country ahead of lobbyists (The bridge to nowhere that both John Mc Cain and her fought against). She more than the other Vice Presidential candidate will not be in anyone’s pocket.
Obama and Biden promise more of the same talk and actions. Too bad the Tony Rezko investigation was not done in some place other than the near century old coruption plagued Democratic Machine in Illinois. I am sure the result would have found another person guilty of more than just bad decisions.
The first person I voted for president for was Kennedy. I was young, and although I had followed politices and international affairs since I was 10, I fell for his charm. Sound familiar? the only difference is Kennedy said “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. What a 180 degree switch for the Democrats!!! Obama’s stand is totally reverse of this statement. How can he or anyone in the Democratic party mention Kennedy’s name or try to make a comparision?
Palin walks the walk. She is real, someone the Democrats themselves state Washington needs. Someone who is not an insider. Well Dems; here SHE is. A working class woman; a blue collar union member husband; a reformer in her own party (Dems take the hint, there is a lot to clean in your own party), a woman who is not afraid of the challenge of caring for a special needs child; proud of the decision of a son who will be going to Iraq (I am sure some of you (Compasionate ha ha) liberals just had the thought that you hope he is killed).
The work she has accomplished in such a short time in office makes Obama and Biden look like rank amatures. Think of what she will learn and contribute over the next 8 years. Years that will be much different than the past 8 years.
Why have the liberals already started to point out her inexperience and that she is only a heartbeat away from becoming president? Don’t you realize Obama would be that heartbeat from the get go and he has not accomplished as much as she while in public office.
Obama would pick the team to advise and help run the executive branch of goverment. With what experience? Or would the Democratic party tell him who to appoint. That would be more probable! Palin would not make those choices.
Would you rather have an inexperienced number two or an inexperienced number one? The choice is clear.

Stupid liberals are really going to regret attacking Sarah Palin the way they have…….you fools attacked small town America……this is exactly why you lose…….America was and continues to be built on the ideals and values of small town America. That is where the American dream begins in small towns. Watching that press conference for Sarah Palin and then hearing the typical elitist response from the Obama campaign making fun of small town America…….how stupid are you? do you really have nothing in your heads? oh wait, but you have the candidate who has those views of “typical white Americans who cling to religion and guns”. That’s why they fled to Hillary. Obama doesn’t represent those values and no fake, phony little convention you frauds try to portray is going to change that. The GOP rightfully so will make sure your past statements and views are remembered…….for the little record Obama has, his various dumb statements are so long and full of himself. Ironic isn’t it liberals, the 1st black candidate and his campaign preach the “reverse racism” they say is preached against them. What a phony……what a fraud.

This election is going to be really special because when McCain wins, I’m going to celebrate not only for McCain and Palin but how the liberals again are their own worst enemy and destroy themselves again. Unfortunately we’ll have to hear more “America is in the toilet, America is doomed, death to “so and so”….you know the typical negativity liberals preach 24/7….everything in America is bad, the economy is in the dumps, worst times since the Great Depression right liberals (even though GDP was more than 3 percent this quarter, lowest rate of inflation, lowest unemployment in history) please have savior Obama with no record, no accomplishments, voted present in the Illinois State Senate more than he ever took a principled stand on any issue by voting Yes or No, voted in favor of Infanticide and was caught on video being proud of that vote. This guy was save us….sad and pathetic. It’s ok Liberals, you can have Obama go and take some more lessons from his mentor Jimmy Carter…he can watch old footage as people had to pay $10-$12.00 gas, stand in breadlines and soup kitchens for hours……how was that economy liberals huh? How was it?…….When you walk outside, do you see that? Liberals disgust me and they’ll learn again why they have become a bankrupt party.

Democrats hypocrisy in this election cycle has been so laughable. They tried to say Bush had no experience even though he was a governor and had a record to judge and because of that, chose Cheney who they then say “well, he is the real President, he’s the one who is really making the decisions”……meanwhile, they choose Obama, who has no experience in anything in his entire life….he hasn’t led anything, he hasn’t passed 1 single solitary bill that “changed” anything, hasn’t been the head of any committee. When Democrats did take over congress, he didn’t even hold 1 single solitary meeting on Afghanistan when he was on the foreign relations committee. Now he chooses Biden, the guy with all of the experience on the VP spot……….uh hello anybody home in there Democrats, you did exactly what you complained Republicans did in 2000. With McCains third beauty queen on the scene:

I contacted a friend who has lived in Alaska for a lot of

years, to request more info. This person is someone who is generally fair and positive about the assessments of people. I assume that these would be things we should know about before voting, and the media will be reporting a lot of other information in the weeks to come.

It was awhile before I received a response. This was the response to me and to many other people who e-mailed the person for more info.

Well, if you want my opinion about our perky little Sarah Palin, here goes: She has NO experience that would prepare her to be leader of the free world–or any other world either. She was mayor of Wasilla, a little town of 8500 we drive through to get to the cabin every week.
Before being elected to governor, just 2 years ago.
She did NOT stop the bridge to nowhere–as the news programs are claiming today (Alaskans thought it was a stooopid idea from the start)

She all of a sudden (strange as it may sound) had a 5th child this spring ( no one even knew she was expecting) and a few days later had the baby in her office angering all the other women and mothers in state government who are not allowed to have THEIR babies in the offices with them. (It’s a Down syndrome baby so we fel empathy for

    her family)

She had promised to get Alaska a flat tax on the big oil companies but couldn’t get it done even with a Republican legislature in power here.

And, in this world of overpopulation concerns, she has 5
children–yet does not work for or support increasing funding for
preschool education or children’s health care. Other people with 5 children desparately need those things.

And with her husband still working for BP, she doesn’t have to worry about her own family’s health care.

During her campaign (altho she has not said anything about it since
then) she doubts that evolution really happened and thinks that
“intelligent design” should be taught in high school biology classes. solely
Right now she’s embroiled along with her husband and other administration members in a rather nasty investigation about whether or not she and her husband (known here as the “First Dude) pressured her Commissioner of Public Safety (a popular cop) to fire a state trooper who was going through a bad divorce with Sarah’s sister and had tazered his 9 year-old stepson who asked him to do it so he’d know how it felt–Hey! We bviously have high quality folks up in Alaska.
It was generally conceded that she would would not have won if she hadn’t been so darned cute and perky.
This certainly should make people think seriously about McCain’s judgment! And it should certainly make folks stop questioning whether Obama has enough experience to be president–obviously McCain doesn’t value experience all that much after all!

Just check out the FACTs as the weeks roll along, not just the political hype. There’s a lot not being said so far. She’s plenty smart, and she was a good point guard for Wasilla High School basketball team–which she highlighted in her acceptance speech this morning. (Maybe they’re trying to blunt Obama’s basketball skill reputation).

But we’d better pray that McCain doesn’t have a heart attack or more melanoma if he does win in November!
Your friend in amazed disbelief–along with every other Alaskan I know.

Shocking Choice by John McCain WASHINGTON– Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

“Senator McCain’s choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.

“Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.

“This is Senator McCain’s first significant choice in building his executive team and it’s a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain’s commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil.” ### The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund (www.defendersactionfund.org) provides a powerful voice in Washington to Americans who value our conservation heritage. Through grassroots lobbying, issue advocacy and political campaigns, the Action Fund champions those laws and lawmakers that protect wildlife and wild places while working against those that do them harm.

I have to address this because I am SHOCKED that Americans are so misinformed and basically ignorant. Quite frankly, at this point “experience” should be the least of anyone’s concerns in this election. For the record, I am an Independent…not affiliated with either party and for good reason. Politics in general disgusts and frustrates me. But, as I began looking into both candidates, it did not take long to find out scary, shocking, and quite frankly, unbelivable facts about Obama. Let’s face it, if he wasn’t black (ok, half black, whatever) he wouldn’t have had a chance to be the #1 for the Democratic ticket. But, he is - and it is frightening. He has less experience than McCain - BY FAR - yet, everyone keeps comparing HIM to Palin. Last I checked he is the Presidential candidate and she is the VP candidate. But, that doesn’t really matter anyway. The question here is about judgement, about character, and about integrity.
    1) The list of questionable characters in Obama’s life story is unbelivable. Any other person would have never been considered as a potential candidate for President with ONE of these people in their history.
    2) Ayers is a unrepentant terrorist, who has donated to the Obama campaign. Oh, and Obama’s political career started in his living room.
    3) One of Obama’s youthful influences is Frank Marshall Davis - who, aside from instructing Obama that “you can never fully trust white people” (David Freddoso, political reporter and author of The Case Against Barack Obama) - he was also reportedly a member of the communist party. (When asked directly by a Senate committee in 1956 if he was a member of the Communist party, he took the Fifth Amendment).
    4) Obama’s close associations are riddled with radicals and extremists. His black advisory council includes a “progressive socialist” and a foreign policy advisor who had to resign after it was brought to light that he had been meeting with the terrorist group Hamas. The Hamas political advisor has also stated that his group supports Obama’s foreign policy ideas.
    5) Obama is also influenced by (and has trained others) on the philosophy of Alinsky, a left wing “community organizer” who dedicated his book Rules for Radicals to “the very first radical…who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he won his own kingdom…Lucifer.” That’s right, Satan himself.
    5) His minister for 20 YEARS was Jeremiah Wright, who is a radical minister known for his inflammatory sermons. He is also vocal about his racial attacks against white people. Obama has said that the first Wright sermon he heard changed his life. (Oh, and in it he talks about white people’s
“greed” and goes on to blame whites for world hunger). Wright baptized Obama.
…and the list goes on and on.
My point is, all of the other BS that Obama supporters bring up doesn’t really matter when you break it down to the basics…and the number one basic question is - does the person you elect, to arguably the most powerful position in the world, have our country’s best interest at heart? Can you trust him? Do you know what he stands for, what his vaules and morals are, and most importantly, where his loyalties lie? So, I ask you Obama supporters those questions…do you know? Can you prove it? Personally I would choose a war hero, a former POW, someone who has scarificed more for this country than most of us would ever dream to do. He may not be perfect, he may not be ideal, he may be old. But, at least with him, I know what I am voting for.
(Facts from above are from several sources, including David Fressoso’s book).

How on earth could American put the trust and belief into a black guy like Obama. What do you all find in him? I have been told that never in the life trust a black man. Wake up America…. If you still want low tax, safe country to live in, think twice before voting for the black guy. Alll Democrats are liars and untrustworthy. Don’t listen to the nice speeches from Dem. Look at what they did to the country, ie, Bill and Hillary Clinton. What did Bill do the country? Look at what he did in the oval office with Lewinski? Such a shame to the wonderful country as America. Wake up and vote for true honest McCain-Sarah Palin…..

Pretending to be pregnant and trying to pass a baby off as your own is definately weird and extremely dishonest. I never had any intention of voting for John McCain but now I think he he has made a fatal error in judgement.

I like that you point out “morals and good old fashioned values.” However, I agree with Thomas Schaller:
“What’s galling is this: When the subject is a pregnancy to an unwed, minority teenage mother growing up in some (presumably Democratic) urban area, that pregnancy becomes fodder for lectures from conservatives about bad parenting, the perils of welfare spending and so on. But when the subject is a pregnancy to an unwed, white teenager from some small town in a Republican state, that pregnancy is…a celebration of the wonders of God’s magnificence–and choosing life!” –Thomas Schallar

The math was obvious, 18,000,000 voters were up for grab, and Obama, understanding the political power of his spring rival, made the conscience choice to keep a powerful woman off the democrat ticket. If women voters decide to vote for McCain, they’ll elect him as the next President, if Obama can justify why he kept Hillary off the ticket, he just might win that vote. Right now, he’s fighting an uphill battle and with every attack he and/or his staff level against Sarah, he’ll distance himself from that important female vote. People also have to stop talking about Palin’s lack of foreign policy, saying that Obama lack of the same experience nullify any edge McCain had on that subject. This is so foolish to argue, his inexperience against her. She’s a Vice Presidential nominee and he’s the Presidential. Would that mean Joe Biden is going to be the REAL President, the one in charge? The talk about something happening to McCain and Palin taking over the Presidency. If both lack the real experience to be President, then you can assume Obama was an inexperienced VP who taken over from a incapacitated leader. Start treating woman with the respect and the acknowledgement they deserve. Why is it wrong to have a black man as commander in chief or a woman as VP. For me I choose Mr. Obama because he has the values that are important to me. I do believe more change could happen with him in office. But I also believe he is going to have women in his top cabinet per his wife choice. I find it interesting that not a single Obama supporter can name ONE accomplishment of his; they can’t defend his character or the shocking background of many of his close associates; and, the best part, most have no idea what the man stands for. The only thing I can figure is that most of the people voting for the radical, left-wing, racist are people who get their news from Entertainment Tonight, or E! News, or worst, CNN and the other network news channels. They have been in love with Obama since his speech in ‘04. Who cares about his experience, who cares about his Senate tenure, what matters is YOU DON”T EVEN KNOW WHAT HE STANDS FOR! What you do know is he has a history of frightening judgement in the people he surrounds himself with - unbelievable for the man who you want to run our country. I ask any of you negative, hateful, Bush-bashers to tell me one reason why Obama would associate with a known terrorist? Why would he call a communist his mentor? Why would he surround himself with radical, angry, violent people who HATE AMERICA? No answer?? Well, I will tell you why…beacuse he has to be at least “a little”, sympathetic to their views. And, I don’t know about you, but “a little” sympathetic to terrorists, or communists, or radical groups that hate the very freedom our country was founded on, is “a little” too disturbing of a viewpoint for a potential President to have. You can say all you want about McCain being old, and reading his speeches (oh, but that’s right - Democrats are suckers for smooth talking politicians who LIE, but speak eloquently, straight to the camera. Look no further than Clinton); you can say McCain is sympathetic to Bush, another four years, yada yada…but, funny how you can’t attack McCain’s character. You can’t attack his integrity. You can’t question his patriotism and love for this country. If one of you is willing to bet everything you hold dear that you would vouch the same for Obama…then please, please tell us why. I do beleive if your going to deal with world issues (which entails war on other people land), then you need someone who wants to deal with the world not just his country. I love my country but at this time I can not just think about my country after being over seas and seeing the help that is need for other countries. We are atlest privilage to make a choice to go out and join our great military. Comparaed to other countries that force men and their families to fight in a war they did not sign up for or wish to participate. As prior military I learned not to just think about myself but as others. I think that is what makes Obama different from the others. I don’t agree on some of his policies but that also goes for Mr. McCain.

Actually, no I wasn’t referring to Obama as a black man that can’t be trusted. I was referring to him as simply a MAN that can’t be trusted - a fact that has nothing to do with the color of his skin, but with his choices in the past…I agree with you,our country is a world leader, which means our leader needs experience in dealing with others nations, their leaders, and have the integrity to stand up for what is right for the US - all points McCain has, Obama does not. Your arguement actually stands in CONTRAST to everything Obama stands for…again, the glaring question is do you even know the man you are supporting? I would argue that you do not…do you think he would be better suited to negotiate with foregin countries when he has ZERO experience in foreign policy? Do you think he would protect our country first? You said Obama is different - again - how do you know that? Because he TELLS you he is! He has nothing in his past to prove that (actually, the opposite - he did noting to change the corrupt politics in Chicago - but I digress)…yet, McCain does. He has a history of bi-partisan politics; he has stood up against Congress and machine politics and lobbyists and big business and even his own party…all of the things that are WRONG in Washington. I don’t just believe that because he says he WILL do those things, I know it because he has DONE them. Thank you for further proving my point that Obama supporters have no idea who the man is they are endorsing.

Oh amy, honey, honey. I work in the messy, chaotic world of politics (irony!). I do research and proposal writing that consist of analyzing the many legislation pieces that has been passed that directly affect my job’s programmatic areas. Therefore, since 2003, I know EXACTLY what this administration has been doing overseas and now at the national level. And I know that jackshit will change, if McCain gets voted into office. Quite frankly, I’m a good judge of logic and reason. And quite frankly again, there has been no logic, no reason, from people coming from whatever Conservative/Republican/etc blog Guanabee has been linked to. Plus, there’s the issue of bad writing, but that’s a whole another subject.

And seriously, I’m tired of people using whatever link Obama has to another individual. For instance, the Wright situation is tired, and has always been a weak story. Fox and friends sure did milk that story, and did a fantastic job of twisted up his words. Yet, it’s funny how people McCain is connected to don’t get as much airtime, such as John Hagee (and do we really need to run the list of big names who are xenophobic, anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-etc, who are on McCain’s/Palin’s side, who have appeared by McCain’s side? Seriously, I don’t have time for that, I’m on my day off).

And this is Guanabee, OK? No one on this blog, not the writers, nor the readers, have to justify a damn thing to you nor your like. It’s a f**kin’ humor site! But if you want to hear an answer, fine:

Yes, Obama does not have much experience at the nation level, besides his current Senate term (and sorry, as much as people really, really have loved to say this for the past couple of days, umm executive power at the state level in a similar timeframe does not really count as surpassing in experience. Nope, sorry.). However, when it comes to choosing someone who will represent me, who do I choose? Who will be on my side as a queer woman, as a woman of reproductive age, as a woman whose parents are immigrants? As a woman who works in reproductive justice issues, on immigration issues, on healthcare reform issues, on queer issues (yes dear, this includes marriage)? On other issues of importance to me, such as housing, as education? See, I wish, just wish you could stand before me and with a straight face tell me that it would be McCain and crew. And then, I would laugh, just as I have been laughing reading this thread.

(And before you say again, “oh, but you haven’t said why Obama is the right candidate,” yes he has demonstrated to me that he indeed would be on my side. I don’t need to further explain myself. But, looking at the indicators I have listed about myself, I think that would be a no-brainer).

And God/dess/es forbid anyone identifies as a Socialist or Communist these days. I have Socialist leanings, amy, you have a problem with that? Yes? Oh, too bad.

Ahhh shit, look at this. I wrote a damn essay. Damn conservatives! Even on my day off, they piss me off! (It’s humor, amy. Humor site? HA HA! Ohhhh, forget it).

You have socialist leanings? No, REALLLY?

I am well aware that Obama is a Senator. A Junior Senator who has spent his entire term either stumping for his book or campaigning for President. There is a big difference between that and 20 years experience (I would throw a “honey” in there - but really? How sexist of a feminist/socialist/lesbian). And, just to clarify I was talking about the candidate for President (which is McCain), not for VP (which is Palin) as you suggested by “comparing timeframes.” But I am sure you are well aware of that with your vast political expertise. And I am sure you have military security clearance, too which would give you the ability to say you know “exactly” what this administration has done oversees. (As an aside, I happen to know the highest ranking civilian in the US Army, and I don’t believe he knows “exactly” what’s going on within this administraion oversees or at the national level. That kind of information isn’t exactly broadcast - nor would someone with that kind of knowledge be purusing internet “humor” sites to flex their “political knowledge” muscles…oh, but I digress).

You have every right to your opinion. We live in a great country, one that I am proud of, with people I interact with, work with, talk with everyday who inspire and intrigue me. You could be one of those intelligent people - but I doubt it. I have found it to hold true that intelligent people usually don’t resort to name calling and blanket accusations to get their point across. I haven’t called anyone a name, or insulted your beliefs, or used profane language. Not once. All I have done is asked for someone, anyone, to give one good reason that you are voting for Obama. I am curious more than anything as to what I am missing - why I am not brought to tears by just seeing the man. Why the media has portrayed him to be some sort of God - he’s a politician! But, no one can explain it. You can attack me, and “conservatives” and “my kind” or however you phrased it - but your anger, your denial, your choice to attack people instead of sticking to the issues (you damn liberal/radical/socialists - now you really piss me off - any day of the week) . He brings nothing to the table other than excellent speaking skills, moderate good looks, and a bunch of talk about who he says he is and what he says he’ll do. But his actions don’t prove a word of it. (Oh, and the reason the people he calls friends and mentors IS a relevant issue is because who you really are is largely indicated by the company you keep. No, it doesn’t define you, it doesn’t make you “guilty by association”, but a pattern of poor judgement is certainly a reflection of someone’s character). That is, if you care about such things…

And sure, this is a humor site…but I don’t find anything about this election funny. And neither does my sister. (who, by the way, did I mention is a lesbian). Ha ha - now that’s funny….true, but nonetheless really funny. And ironic too. Which I guess, speaking of ironic, so is the fact that I make a pretty decent living as a freelance writer. Did I really just read that - the Democratic party is “way better”. That is truly profound.

The next time someone asks me why I am voting for McCain / Palin (and she is incredible if you aren’t watching) I am going to say because the ticket is “way better’. You are right, you should criticize my “incoherent” writing. Yours is, you got it, “way better.”

You go girl. You wear your “I am more radical than Jeremiah Wright” badge with honor. Who wouldn’t be proud to proclaim “I am more radical than a racist?” Shout that from the moutain top sister! You are looking for social acceptance, sympathy towards the issues that are important to you…I get that, we all are. Yet, you say you are more radical than a person who stands on a platform of hatred of all things that aren’t like him. Talk about the irony.

But, all things considered and taking into account everything you have said here - I see why you think the Democratic party is “way better.” Read your own words…you never once mentioned any other needs than your own. You never spoke of the best candidate for our COUNTRY it was only about you. Your needs, and only your needs. That is so telling of the people who endorse the Democratic party. You only think about yourselves. Hell, why else would celebrities embrace your ideals? They are the most selfish and egocentric people on the planet. Republicans tend to put COUNTRY first…but I can see why that wouldn’t appeal to you.

But, dear L-K to tell you the truth, you bore me…and I am moving on to sites where the dialogue is engaging, where even those who disagree with my views at least pose intelligent questions - and there is intelligent debate as a result. At least they disagree respectfully and with a little class (some of them at least - but, unfortunately the Dems have become angry and bitter so I still endure a little name calling…) You haven’t said one single thing that is profound, or intelligent, or forward thinking. You simply said you are a lesbian woman of reproductive age and Obama would be “on your side.” I guess if you think this election is about your issues, and only your issues, then I see your point (not really, but for kicks I will say so). But, for those of us who are mothers (see, I am of “reproductive age” too - but I’ve actually given birth to 4 wonderful children)..mothers who care about our children, and their safety and education and the country we leave them; for those of us who have husbands who have served 2 tours in Iraq; for those of us who are educators, and advocates for issues outside of those that simply serve our personal interest; for all of these people I say this: this election is about our country, our safety, and the safety of our children…maybe one day you will know what it feels like to put someone else’s needs ahead of your own.

Oh, and you don’t piss me off…I feel kind of bad for you actually.

But again, will McCain and crew help me achieve that…let’s be real here. The answer is no.“ I work in human rights, dear, if hasn’t become clear enough. I’m a social justice advocate. Freelance writer, huh? In order to be a good writer, you also have to be a good reader.

I guess you interpret “reproductive rights” as solely as “abortion,” but it consists more than that, including obviously motherhood. For instance, at my job, part of our work is to make sure that mothers who are detained by ICE and put in detention centers are not separated from their infant children, particularly if they are breastfeeding. It also means that pregnant women who are detained are not chained up when they go into labor. That’s part of reproductive rights/ justice. See, you learn something new everyday.

And when I said that the Democratic Party is way better, it was in reference to LGBTQ rights. And tell me no. (I also guess you glanced over my Green Party preference, but I’m a realist).

But, I’m glad you decided to move on. It’s the best you can do honestly, since you are wasting your time. And you feel bad for me that I’m actually a fighter for social justice? Interesting…

I love Amy’s comments about how the Republicans put “country first.” I can’t begin to get my hands around that comment. Amy is probably a straightforward person, and this concept appeals to her. The truth is that the “country first” message is shallow and is designed to get a reaction (republicans are reactionary by nature) and not make a person think. If it’s in your character to follow a politician (yes, the president is the head of his/her political party) blindly into a war or any other venture, and not question the consequences because you believe you may come across as not “loving your country,” then good for you! Clearly, you bought into what they’re selling. I’m sure you think the Republicans also love god more than others because they wear it on their sleeves - they tell you so all the time. Whereas, the other side keeps their spirituality personal - as if they’re embarrassed by it… so, clearly the Reps love god more. Oh and the Republicans are real “red-blooded” Americans because… they… care more about the wealthiest 5% of the country I guess? Apparently, these simple messages appeal to the less sophisticated…

I beg to differ about writing skills, Susie. She came in here, like most of the other people from whatever site Guanabee has been linked to, not to seek a impartial conversation, but to stir up the room (a.k.a - trolling). If people actually want to begin a conversation, it is not by immediately belittling someone or throwing out connections that are based on exaggerations or misunderstandings, and then claiming that they are the ones being belittled and that their perspective is getting trashed.

She said that she asked what Obama has done, which is crap; she didn’t. She immediately began to trash him. She put in quotation marks community organizer (the new “Communist,” I guess), which is despicable and disgraceful. Community organizers do the all work, mobilize communities and achieve change and progress, and get nothing back or little recognition in return, and then politicians come along and take the credit for work that they didn’t do. If she or others need a further description, look at community organizations that are dedicated to helping those in need and are pushing for policy changes, if any other from the other side even gives a damn (and for this I link to Jay Smooth’s current video on the RNC’s new theme of trashing Community Organizers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAc0OmQ1PpY ).

That’s why I was not taking her seriously. She and others made that decision to come in here with junk, therefore anticipate such a reaction from people not taking her or others seriously, especially from those who are either community organizers or from those who work with them (many on this site are organizers or are connected to them, including myself).

And ditto to what Ant said.

Do you think I didn’t question the war? Do you think he didn’t, or he hasn’t when he has faced death head on, when he has seen his friends and fellow soldiers injured and some die? Do you think I didn’t question that when I had to explain to my four girls, the youngest 2, where their Daddy was and, worse, answer the questions of when he was coming home? You have no idea as to why I believe what I do. Don’t insinuate that I am less than sophisticated just because my beliefs are different from yours- I haven’t called you or anyone else names without cause. I haven’t attacked you. All I did was simply ask a question - why you support Obama? Is that so bad? Is that inflammatory or insulting or so ridiculous a question? But you didn’t answer. Instead, you pointed out what is wrong with the Republican party. I didn’t ask you that. We could both list more than enough wrong with both parties.
But you, like so many others who sit in this country and curse everything you believe that is wrong with it don’t get it. “Country first” isn’t a simplistic message - it is a mantra that all of our armed forces live and breathe everyday you jerk. Tell that to one of my sister’s who’s husband is serving in Iraq as we speak. Tell her that her husband is simplistic and less than sophisticated because he believes in his country first. Or better yet, I wish you could tell him that. Tell my husband that. I would love to see the look on your face when he told you that you, with your arrogant approach and cowardly barbs at our President and the war, and all you believe is true and right is all a bunch of bullshit. He knows, he’s there. He lives the war my friend, and he believes in what we are fighting for. You believe what the media has told you, so who is simplistic? My husband knows, he’s been there. You sit behind a computer and insult people whos opinions differ from yours. He would laugh in your face - I can assure you - and tell you that insulting his sister-in-law, and his wife, and him and all the soldiers who fight along with him is one hell of a way to say thank you to him and those fighting for the very freedom that allows you to spew your BS.

@Ant Let me answer that for you as plainly as I can. I will include scriptures that you can refer to if you desire.
Many people make the mistake of believing the Bible says, “You shall not kill,” and seek to apply this command to war. However, the Bible actually says, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). The Hebrew word literally means “the intentional, premeditated killing of another person with malice.” God often ordered the Israelites to go to war with other nations (1 Samuel 15:3; Joshua 4:13). God ordered the death penalty for numerous crimes (Exodus 21:12; 21:15; 22:19; Leviticus 20:11). So, God is not against killing in all circumstances, but rather only murder. War is classified as murder in the Bible. In a world filled with sinful people war is inevitable (Romans 3:10-18). Sometimes the only way to keep sinful people from doing great harm is by going to war with them.
It is an error, or should I say grossly misinformed, to say that God, and therefore Jesus, never supports a war. Jesus is not a pacifist. In a world filled with evil people, sometimes a war is necessary to prevent even greater evil. Ecclesiastes 3:8 declares, “there is…a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. In a world filled with sin, hatred, and evil war is inevitable (Romans 3:10-18). Some wars are more “just” than others, true, but all wars are ultimately the result of sin. Christians should not desire war, but neither are Christians to oppose the government God has placed in authority over them (Romans 13:1-4; 1 Peter 2:17). The Bible even instructs us how to cope with a war stating the most important thing we can be doing in a time of war is to be praying for godly wisdom for our leaders, praying for the safety of our military, praying for quick resolution to the conflict, and praying for minimum casualties – on both sides of the conflict (Philippians 4:6-7).
So, contrary to your post Ant, the teachings of Jesus reinforce the use of military force to obliterate evil. Of course no one wants war…but I think the primary difference between the parties ideologies is Republicans understand that the battle between good and evil has been present since the beginning of time. If you allow evil to exist without consequence, it will not go away on its own. If you are well versed in the teachings of Jesus and the gospel, then you know Jesus is not a coward. It is an error to say that God never supports a war. If Hitler had not been defeated by World War II, how many more millions of Jews would have been killed? If the Civil War had not been fought, how much longer would African Americans have had to suffer as slaves? We must all remember to base our beliefs in the Bible, not on our emotions (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
So, I prefer to base my beliefs in the Bible. Because I, like my good friend Jesus Christ, am not a pacifist.
I hope you will now refrain from calling me ignorant.

Norris - My point is that we’ve had almost 9 years or the same old, slow to change (that’s the very definition of “conservative”) philosophy in this country and in many ways we’re worse off. I don’t agree with conservative ideology in general - not because I want big government, but because I don’t want another administration to continue to dismantle government. I believe it can play a role in making cities better and protecting consumers (FDA, EPA, Consumer Product Safety Commission , etc.). And to be quite frank, another travesty of the Bush administration is how he gutted these consumer protection agencies – which are designed to protect us. What a great concept it is to have agencies staffed by people from the very industries they regulate! Way to go conservatives… again it’s about looking after businesses and their profits rather than Americans.

Also – if government is so inept, why do you want it to tell women what they should do with their bodies??? Conservatives hate government - - but they want it in peoples’ lives when it suites their desires. How convenient.

I think there’s a good reason people are screaming for a change, Norris.

    - Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify

    - Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
    - First president to establish a legal defense fund.
    - First president to be held in contempt of court
    - Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
    - Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad

Oh, the “Clinton Scandal Index” from Progressive Review LOL.

While I don’t deny that the Clinton Administration had its internal/infrastructure ethic problems, it’s lame to copy and paste from a source that has absolutely no sources. Again, not saying that some of those scandals didn’t happen, however, if I were to present this at a workshop, panel, or in front of a class, without backing up information, I would become a joke for trying to even pull that off. For instance, a quick error I see is the one about disbarment. Clinton wasn’t disbarred, it was Nixon. Clinton resigned, not that it makes it any better, but it’s still an error. And that “witnesses to die suddenly” one? LOL, oh come on. Even Snopes had fun dismissing that one. So lesson learned: don’t believe everything that gets forwarded to you in a mass e-mail.

Here is a book, “Scandal” by Lanny Davis, that talks about political scandals in the US. Yes, partial as he is very much in favor of Clinton. But here’s the difference between Davis’ “Scandal” and the Progressive Review’s “Clinton Scandal Review” the former provides sources, the latter really doesn’t.

And for war, yes, I agree, there are just wars that should be initiated. The examples you provided are fine examples, as serious human rights violations were occurring in all (I have my problems with the Iraqi war, as the reasons given were not sufficient nor truthful, and that issue of an exit strategy, or lack of. Also, it removed funds from the struggle in Afghanistan; as it known, the Taliban is rising again and quickly).

However, what I would like to see is some consistency. Consistency in the sense that if a country is going to declare war on dictatorships in the name of “good,” in the name of “human rights,” and to fight against “tyranny,” then it should not ignore, and in no way support other dictatorships who are guilty as charged (yes, including Hussein. For starters, from George Washington U’s National Security Archives: Shaking Hands with Saddam Hussein: The U.S. Tilts toward Iraq, 1980-1984, complete with 61 sources, consisting of government documents that are viewable online, also from GWU, the SH Handbook).

The comment from Ant about not wanting to dismantle the government is very telling. Allowing big govt to take control of our lives smacks of Socialism. Individuals seem to no longer wants to be responsible for themselves. Lets create a beauracratic(spelling…I know) entity for everything possible. Take FEMA and hurricane Katrina…Everyone wants to blame Bush. None of your party wants to assign any guilt to the first two individuals in the chain (A democrat mayor and a democrat governor) Sure, blame Bush and the head of FEMA for everything that went wrong. It’s much easier than assigning blame to the folks who didn’t listen when told to evacuate or the city/state officials who didn’t follow up on getting them out of harms way. Most folk know or should know… if in a hurry, do it yourself, if not… wait for a beauracrat. I wont even attempt to make excuses for the head of FEMA at that time…the guy was not the man for that job. Having said that however… FEMA, just like the State Dept, CIA, FBI and a host of other Federal agencies, is controlled more by the career employees than most people think. With the exception of the military, all other govt agencies are rather slow to respond. Always have been, always will be. I want government to enforce the the rules and laws that we the people elect our officials to enact. And that, my friend, isn’t happening like its supposed to. I only see them making more rules and taking more taxes.

My immediate comment in regards to Nate:

The vast majority of comments in this thread are from people outside of the normal readership of Guanabee (the usual comment quantity for any post varies between 5-10, look at where this thread is current at, more than 140). Only a few people who are frequent readers have commented, and just two at this point are still really commenting (Ant and I). So the majority of smearing is coming from the outsiders, meaning McCain/Palin supporters. I have no problem tallying up the number of those who are smearing either Obama/Biden, or McCain/Palin, if a clearer picture is needed. But that would have to be for the evening.

And let’s not get start about Katrina, as blame can be placed all around. I also think it would be in bad taste to even attempt to put blame on residents, particularly when many didn’t have the means to evacuate, as the evacuation plan was an absolute disaster (the elderly, the sick, disabled people, people without access to transportation, people who had no place to go, and quite frankly, those who knew that if they left, that they would not be able to go back and reclaim their home/property, as it has been demonstrated over and over again after Katrina). But that’s not really the topic at hand?

And did you say that “big govt to take control of our lives smacks of Socialism?” Hmm, I think that I can identify several instances where the 2008 Republican Platform has identified that they would like to do just that, if that’s the document that McCain/Palin plan to be loyal to if elected. Well, it’s being done now anyway.

Barack Obama, founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992. His wife became the executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Got it? Obama plans to use the nonprofit group which he features on his campaign website as the model for a national service corps.

The Obamas’ plan is to herd American youth into government funded reeducation camps where they will be brainwashed into thinking that America is a racist, oppressive place in need of social change. The pitch Public Allies makes on its website doesn’t seem that radical. It promises to place young adults 18 30 in a paid one year community leadership position with nonprofit or government agencies. They will also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats. In exchange they will get a monthly stipend of $1800 pus healthcare and child care. They also get a public service education award of almost $5,000 that can be used to pay off student loans and fund future education. Got it? Public Allies promotes diversity and inclusion. That’s what you’ll find on their website. More than 70% of its recruits are people of color. When they are not protesting, they are staffing AIDS clinics, handing out condoms, bailing criminals out of jail and helping illegal aliens and the homeless obtain food stamps and other welfare. Haven’t gotten to the good stuff yet. Public Allies brags that they are more than 80% of their graduates have continued working in nonprofit or government jobs.

Let me tell you something, gang. When you can name the children of a woman that lives in Alaska that you just met seven days ago, you know half of the story. You know all the bad things about this woman and some of the bad things that aren’t even true about this woman, but you’ve never heard of Public Allies. You’ve got to ask yourself why. When you see somebody take down Sarah Palin, you’ve got to ask yourself why. When you see the media, who has always been in bed with John McCain, now say John McCain, no, you’ve got to ask yourself why. It is the liberal elite. It is the march of socialism that has been happening in our universities forever. It is the Marxism that has been festering in our large cities and nobody is willing to call it by name. It is the reason why Barack Obama, who should have a 20 point lead. This is the best thing about America. America, you don’t know this stuff. Why doesn’t Barack Obama have a 20 point lead with everything he has? Because something in your gut says something’s not right. He can’t close the deal because enough people say something’s not right here. This is it, and it’s been kept from you, somewhat. Every piece of this puzzle has been outed. Every piece of this puzzle is out there. But nobody will put the pieces together. All they want to say is look at the nice Greek columns, look at the nice stage show. Isn’t it cool that he’s African American? We’ll bring more on this story as it continues to develop in Investors Business Daily. The national review and the Glenn Beck program. We’ll give you this story in the newsletter today at GlennBeck.com. Read it; share it with your friends.

    From website VDARE.com quote:
Despite the difference in personality between Alinsky and Obama—Alinsky was an annoying Lenny Bruce, Obama is a reassuring Sidney Poitier—Hillary’s 1969 criticism also applies to Obama’s four years as a full-time Alinskyite. By his own account, Obama’s only accomplishment was mau-mauing the black bureaucrats at the Chicago Housing Authority into removing some asbestos from public housing; a worthy task, but a solution to a problem that ranks comically low on any list of troubles besetting black slum dwellers.

In summary, Obama came to the Chicago to do good, but ended up doing well.

It’s, the story of his life. Obama takes jobs ostensibly to help blacks—community organizer, discrimination lawyer, politician—but they mostly just help fuel his amazing ascent to the White House. The fundamental flaw in Obama’s career is that each job is to help poor blacks get more goodies out of the government, but government handouts undermine black moral fiber, leaving the community worse off than before the Great Society.

Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must keep the captive ignorant educationally, but trained sufficiently well to serve the system. Also, the captors must be able to identify the “talented tenth” of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor’s control.

Those so identified as separated from the rest of the people by:

Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.

Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.

Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of “we” and “they” instead of “us”…

SICK REALLY SICK,,,,,AND THIS IS WHAT OBAMA STANDS BEHIND………WHAT CHANGE HE WANTS TO BRING ABOUT IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY TOUTING FREEDOM………….THIS IS THE REAL OBAMA WHOM WE WANT TO VOTE INTO OFFICE??? …………….THINK ABOUT IT, PLEASE, BEFORE THIS COUNTRY SUFFERS UNNECESSARILY BECAUSE OF PEOPLE’S IGNORANCE…………..

PS: regarding Palin and this smut gossip, why not go to snopes to find out the truth??? She did not pose for Vogue, but she did interview for an article………and I’d rather vote for someone interviewing for an article than for someone not being honest about exactly “what kind of change” he thinks “America” needs…………..
he is non-patriotic as well, as his recent visit with (actually, the troops say he completely ignored them) the troops in Iraq would indicate. Obama’s actions are very frightening and non-American……………..I would think we would prefer to run someone of this caliber out of our country, not actually consider him to run it to the ground.

That’s exactly why I raised the issue, Rob. I agree with you 100% that God should have absolutely nothing to do with politics. However, one side has hammered into Americans that they’ve cornered the political market on God and a large segment of folks have fallen for it, hook, line and sinker.

But, I do think that you are incorrect in the last part of your statement. I don’t know that Republicans believe they have “cornered the market” in terms of God (there is alot wrong with that sentence, but oh well). I think that, if you simply look at the basic foundations of each parties ideoligies, Republicans views tend to be more in line with conventional “biblical” principles. If you look at each parties platform, the topic of religion alone illustrates that - Republicans are more closely associated with religion where the Democratic party strongly adheres to promoting secular issues and a more secular nation. There are specifc topics that dive deeper into that topic (ie, gay rights/marriage, and abortion are the obvious ones), but that’s not really the point.
My point is really this: I think most people fall in the “middle” on most of issues. I don’t mean undecided, I mean many people don’t adhere to strictly one parties agenda. Take abortion…it drives me crazy that it is such an issue at election time. I, like many people, have a personal conviction about abortion, but I certainly don’t believe Roe v Wade should be overturned and abortion should be illegal again. It’s a personal choice - I am personally pro life, but I don’t believe that my values and beliefs should be forced on anyone. If abortion were illegal again, procedures would still be performed, and under more dangerous circumstances. (Granted, each side has radical supporters, but I am talking about most mainstream Americans). We could probably go into many issues and have the same conversation…
I think that each party has used such hot bed issues as a scare tactic to further promote their own party. These discussions rarely represent the majority (not party majority, but American majority), and instead represent each parties agenda.

Sarah Pallin I definitely admire for her seeming tenacity, her single-mindedness, her clarity, her no-nonesense approach to politics and consistency. Unfortunately, I find myself not able to align with 80-90% of her political beliefs. I find her similar to some of my extended family members who hunt, fish, go to an evangelical church, and have a number of the same political views and beliefs as her. Good people. But their politics I can’t agree on. What to do? In the end, we truly know so little about the consequences of each political action. How can we humans, of such limited ability to forsee the future or ascertain the effects of so many different actions, really know what’s best?
I don’t blame people like Sarah Pallin for believing how they do: I respect their beliefs though they differ significantly from mine. I like her core political behavior but don’t agree with her opinions. I wish the good qualities could be combined with better politics. The main problem I see is short-sightedness with regard to the environment. Sure, she has benefitted the state of alaska temporarily with a surplus by manuevering energy needs and so forth. But we can’t keep raping the resources of this beautiful continent to no end: both the act of over-consumption of gas and oil and the avoidance of developing alternative power is nothing other than pure sin.

I understand that some become religious zealots and govern their lives based on their faith… that’s fine. But when they enter the public arena and have the capacity to affect others - that’s when I and others should stand up and say NO - no to pushing one’s personal outlook on the rest of us. I see Ms Palin much like I see religious fanatics from other places - including the Middle East - who do not tolerate others’ points of view because they so wholeheartedly believe that they know THE way to god. This is a problem and it should NEVER be admired, Tekmeri.

All hell is breaking loose on Wall Street, and one of the more subtle things the crisis has exposed is a growing ideological rift in the Republican Party that’s starting to border on intellectual incoherence.

    Wanting It Both Ways
The traditional small government, “hands off” wing has always argued for minimal regulation and healthy dollops of personal responsibility. This line of thinking suggests that the appropriate response to the Lehman collapse is for investors and executives to exercise more caution in the future. That’s how markets work.
Yet there’s now a competing populist strand of the party that seeks to protect the “little guy” against greed and incompetence. John McCain was quoted in the New York Times earlier this week as saying that our economy has been put at risk “because of the greed by some based in Wall Street and we have got to fix it.”
The problem is that you can’t simultaneously embrace markets and personal responsibility and then, when those markets have a car wreck, argue that it’s the government’s job to protect us against rapacious Wall Street traders.

    Fault Lines Exposed
This is just a tiny example of a phenomenon that’s been developing through the Bush presidency and into this campaign. Do you remember Sarah Palin’s rousing convention speech? Forget the “First Dude,” the hockey mom thing, the eyeglasses, and even whether she did or did not support the “Bridge to Nowhere.”
Instead, just pay attention to what s he said and what it means for the growing contradictions within the GOP. For those who were paying attention, Palin raised two issues that should have exposed the fault lines that will eventually consume her party.
First, do Republicans favor small government, or do they think that government should provide more assistance for families with children who have special needs? Because you can’t have it both ways.

    A Dual-Sided Speech
In her critique of Barack Obama, Palin told the adoring crowd, “Government is too big … [Obama] wants to grow it.” That’s a legitimate point. And it’s consistent with Ronald Reagan’s famous assertion that the nine most dangerous words in the English language ar e “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
The Republicans are supposed to stand for less government — lower taxes, less regulation, and, as a result, more personal responsibility and self-reliance. That’s one of the most important and defensible tenets of the party.
But wait! Was that the same ostensible conservative telling the audience, “To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.”

    Whose Special Needs?
Why are families who have children with special needs any different from farmers at risk of losing their land, workers who need health insur ance, employees hurt on the job, families dealing with parents who have Alzheimer’s disease, veterans eating out of trash bins, and so on. If you have those problems, then “a friend and advocate in the White House” is big government.
But if you happen to have a special-needs child, apparently that’s different because Palin happens to share your challenge. And if one of her family members happens to get Alzheimer’s, then maybe we’ll have new programs for that, too.
Palin’s speech suggested that, again, the Republicans want it both ways — and it’s no anomaly. This explains how the Republicans can talk about small government and then deliver huge new programs like Medicare prescription drug coverage, the largest expansion of entitlement spending in decades.
Or how the party of personal re sponsibility is fielding a ticket whose website calls for “aggressive federal action to help keep 200,000 to 400,000 families from losing their homes.”
    Governing Through Inefficiency
The second point is more subtle but ultimately more damning of the Republicans: How can the government be inefficient and ineffective at most things it does — and yet perfectly able to decide who should be held indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay without even rudimentary legal protections?
Governor Palin told the convention, “Al-Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America … [Obama's] worried that someone won’t read them their rights.” The Republicans have consistently promised to get tough on terrorists — no problem there. A terrorist organization with a nuclear weapon is arguably the most dangerous threat we must confront. But Palin was also mocking our basic legal protections, and that’s a huge, scary mistake.
Believe it or not, the reason her position makes so little sense is rooted in economics. Researchers have long recognized that any time we test or screen for something — whether it’s detecting prostate cancer or keeping hijackers off airplanes — there’s an unavoidable tradeoff. The more sensitive the screen, the greater the risk that you tell someone they have cancer when they don’t, or that you’ll stop a guy in the airport security line because he has a big belt buckle and not a hand grenade.
But if you design a less sensitive test to avoid “false positives,” then occasionally you won’t catch a tumor or the guy trying to board an airplane with a semiautomatic weapon — a “false negative.”
    Missing the Tradeoff
The challenge of terrorism is that both false positives and false negatives are unacceptable. We can’t let just a few terrorists slip in. But if we design a system so sensitive that it will catch every person who has the potential to do us harm, then we’re almost certainly going to snare plenty of people who’ve done nothing wrong.
Palin’s smug line about reading terrorists their rights misses this inevitable tradeoff. The tougher we are on potential terrorists, the more legal protections we need to fix our inevitable mistakes. That’s not politics, it’s basic logic. Should we send everyone who sets off an airport metal detector straight to prison and leave them there indefinitely?
There’s a philosophical inconsistency to the GOP position as well. The Republicans are skeptics about the limits to what government can or should do. Again, this is a reasonable position; without market competition, the government tends to be slow, inefficient, and largely unaccountable.
But how can the party that so vociferously (and effectively) maligns government be willing to entrust so much unchecked power to that very same government when it comes to arresting people and holding them without trial? Would you let the Post Office or the IRS or FEMA send people away indefinitely? If not, why should we entrust any other bureaucracy with that power?
    Identity Crisis
Remember, this is the party that has historically opposed gun registration for fear that the government might someday swoop in and take away guns from its citizens. Where’s that paranoia and distrust of authority when we need it most?
Yes, the Democrats have heaps of problems of their own. A reasonable person can agree with everything I’ve written here and still conclude that the Republicans are less dysfunctional than the Democrats.
But that doesn’t answer the question that’s been festering since the Reagan presidency, and has been highlighted anew by McCain’s nod to the Palin wing of the party and by his response to the Wall Street carnage: Who are the Republicans, and what do they stand for?

I wish more Americans were bright enough to realize the differences between Obama and McCain. I look at it this way: on the Democratic side you have a guy whose campaign has been based on the Internet, who believes America may have something to learn from other countries (like universal health care) and who’s unafraid in 2008 to say he’s a “proud citizen of the United States and a fellow citizen of the world.”
On the Republican side, you have a guy who, in 2008, is just discovering the Internet and Google and whose No. 2 is a woman who got a passport last year and believes she understands Russia because Alaska is closer to Siberia than Alabama.

If I were Obama, I’d put it this way: “Senator McCain, the world you claim to understand is the world of yesterday. A new century demands new thinking. Our country cannot be made fundamentally secure by a man who thought our economy was fundamentally sound.”
