Sarah Palin In Vogue Magazine: Vague On Issues, But Totally En Vogue!

sarah_vogue_8.29.08.jpg

Did you know Sarah Palin, the woman who might be this nation’s next top model Vice President, was once interviewed for Vogue? We did! And didn’t care! But apparently this is a huge deal to a lot of people. Well, Hillary Clinton landed the cover of the much-venerated fashion magazine back in December of 1998 but, like. Who gives a shit? Not a huge amount of people were Googling “Hillary Clinton Vogue” when she announced she was running for President of the United States. Because Sarah Palin is what is commonly described as “cute” or conventionally “pretty.” And Hillary is not.

And that’s fine. Palin’s looks will work to both help and hinder her throughout her political career. But we can’t help but wonder whether Palin’s palatable looks were about as important in McCain’s decision to include her as his running mate as any of her personal stances on political issues - especially since so many of her take on topics of interest to the American people remain unknown.

Assuming McCain was dead-set on picking a female VP, why not pick a woman who was more well-known or whose had more political experience than being a mayor of a small town and the governor of a state that’s never had to deal with things like, say, immigration, in any meaningful capacity?

We realize, of course, that there are lots of reasons why Palin was chosen. But the American public will be (And are.) terribly interested in looking at images of Palin, even as they scratch their heads and ask what polar bear she blew up in the Arctic Reserve to nab that VP nomination. And, Jesus, we could barely stomach the media’s inane babbling over Hillary’s haircut and pantsuits or listening to “Isn’t She Lovely?” play as Michelle Obama wrapped up her speech at the DNC. We cringe in advance at how Palin’s going to be represented and discussed as the election wears on. Cringe with us, please:

sarah_vogue_2_8.29.08.jpg

She’s well suited for the magazine, attractive as she is accomplished. The 43-year-old Palin’s high cheekbones could rival any runway model’s; she’s well-dressed, and often wears her brown hair with gold highlights fashionably swept up.
In a state where residents are not shy about voicing their political opinions, Internet blogs also don’t ignore this aspect of the current occupant of the governor’s office. One proclaims Alaska and Palin “Coldest State, Hottest Governor.”

Thank God it’s a long weekend. We’ll spend it sleeping, berry-picking and dreaming about Hillary Clinton, Cindy McCain, Michelle Obama, Jill Biden and Sarah Palin holding a press conference addressing sexism in the media. And then waking up to a brand new work week, energized and ready to laugh off our adorable, girlish naïvité.

She can hunt me a Moose any day!
McMilf 2008 - “Coldest State, Hottest Vice President.”

@ Jonathan: Cringe.

I don’t think she’s pretty.

This reminds me of an argument against Sylvia Plath’s popularity. A male critic dismissed her poetry saying she was only popular she killed herself and was marginally attractive. I don’t think Sylvia Plath is particularly pretty.

I would complain about sexism and women being relegated to “ugly” or “passable”, but when John Edwards first appeared in 2003 he was pretty much dismissed as a pretty boy.

Theory: People hate pretty women politicians, love pretty male politicians until they’re involved in a National Enquirer scandal.

Sure she’s pretty and yeah she’s smart. I’m sure there’s a lot to this woman, but that isn’t really the issue. She’s being used for ‘posturing’ McCain’s campaign. Is it a coincidence that the morning after Obama’s outstanding speach to the nation, McCain announces that he’s selected a mother of five who owns a float plane, eats mooseburgers and hunts, as his running mate? Is he trying to appeal to the rest of the ‘down to earth’ moms out there who might be sitting on the fence since HIllary isn’t available to us? Or was this for pure shock value? I’m an Alaskan, living in Juneau and I’m a single mother of three beautiful children and you couldn’t have paid me enough to vote for Palin as our Governor, let alone VP of our nation. She has no experience in the legislature and very little experience in the governor’s office. She’s not qualified for the job, and it makes me wonder why this decision wasn’t made for the right reason, and the only reason, because she would be good for our country. No she wouldn’t and she wasn’t chosen based on those merrits. Very dissapointing McCain!
Mary Dornbirer-Juneau Alaska

I’m sick of a few women speaking for all women in this country. NO, all women are not prochoice! I think Sarah Palin was a perfect VP choice.

Absolutely no qualifications to be picking Palin as VP. What the heck are you thinking McCain??? You just sunk any chance of winning with this choice. Thanks…..for nothing. God help us, that all I can say now.

Obama couldn’t lead a group of girlscouts in a silent F#*%ing prayer. And yet Mary from Juneau is disappointed in Palin as a “Vice” Presidential candidate due to HER lack of experience?

Mary states: “She has no experience in the legislature” She further adds: “She’s not qualified for the job, and it makes me wonder why this decision wasn’t made for the right reason”

Mary these are compelling questions that should rightfully be asked of any thinking person before voting for Obama.

Parece que este post trajo a todos los gringos derechistas a guanabee…

Genuinely accomplished women have little time for beauty pageants…think Rachael Carson, Marie Curie…for examples…our environmental and societal challenges require more.

She is an excellent choice; love it.

Mary Dornbirer-Juneau Alaska………She has done more good for this state in the last year than anyone has. So far her record does speak for itself and experienced or not she has not renigged on anything that she has set out to accomplish. That speaks volumes about her. America is tired of the people who say the pretty things but don’t follow through. It’s about time we have someone that will take a stand and does understand.

As far as the person that left the comment about immigration………well, Alaska does have a big problem with it and yes it is an issue. Sarah Palin is not going into this blindly. Just because people are ignorant and think Alaska is its own country does not mean that we do not experience the same issues as the other states. By the way we are part of the US. And no, we do not ride on the backs of moose.

She is not just a pretty face. She actually does have brains upstairs. It definately beats the alternative and good for you McCain. Its about time someone takes a risk for a country that is so worth it. Lets gain back that integrity and fight and move forward. GOD BLESS THE USA

I am so very proud of John McCain’s choice. I think she is great.

love the reference to a 20 yr old beauty pagent that is so relevent now. Of course Alexis thinks Rachael Carson is accomplished. More people die from malaria due to her junk science with DDT than we can count. Why not talk about Princess Diana and her battle against land mines or is that no longer a humanitarian effort since Cindy Mcain is involved in the same thing.

Fortunately, Palin has the executive experience—making decisions constantly every day—and has not been a senator before (has not been polluted by having to cut all those deals). Then there is Obama, who has spent practically his whole time (150 days or so) in the Senate running for president. He should have followed his gift and become a motivational speaker. And why is he pushing through a world poverty bill that will cost us $845 billion dollars over 13 years and will be handled by THE U.N.???!!!
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56405
Couldn’t he just send his long-lost half-brother in the African hut some of the money from his book deals? The U.S. already sends a lot of aid oversees and this would be on top of it—and, again, distributed by the U.N.! How does this help our fiscal crisis? And what does this say about his judgment. Palin is without platitudes and makes sure the taxpayers get back the surplus, instead of thinking up more ways to spend our money. Exactly what we need. Obama talks the talk—CHANGE—and then picks BIDEN. I’d say that with Palin (far from DC and the “bridge to nowhere” earmark buster), McCain walks the walk.

I think this is awesome! I love her already!

She is lovely and I liked her speech yesterday.

I think that McCain just shot himself in the foot! Palin has absolutley NO experience in foreign relations, and is a nobody in the world of politics
This choice of his is totally ridiculous and does nothing for his campaign except makes it easier to look at them on the podium.
we need Barack Obama, we need Joe Biden, we need change! Like Barack said at the Democratic convention; “Eight is enough!” Barack Obama in my eyes is a cross between JFK and MLK… He has my vote and all my familys as well! He is the future of our country! This is it…nothing else matters…God Bless America and Bring on the elections….Barack..Barack..Barack…Barack…Barack…Later!

Congratulations, America! I have been torn as to who to support, clearly not comfortable with Obama’s ambiguity on issues and McCain’s ties with Bush. I knew little about Sara Palin before yesterday, but I love what I have learned. She is the poster child for what women of intelligence and conviction can do. She is clear in her support of issues, has strong family values, and can successfully tackle tough problems and provide clear-cut solutions. Thank goodness she has been nominated to be our next vice president!

Republicans are so predictable. Sarah Palin is this year’s Clarence Thomas. Think about it, yo!

Why the liberals question Palin, please roll out Obama’s laundry list of accomplishments, bills that he’s actually passed that “CHANGED” (remember that word you love) people’s lives…….I’m waiting………..still waiting………let me know………even Joe Biden couldn’t list anything, because he is an Empty Suit with nothing but hot air words that contradict everything he says. Palin’s got accomplishments and a record to look at as a reformer (for you liberals, you know what a reformer is?

So you’ll be taught……reform = change (you love that word don’t you) in the orthodoxy and shake up. She’s gotten the corrupt Alaskan Republican party out of there, vetoed more than 300 wasteful bills in her first year in office, cut taxes on all Alaskans by taking on oil corporations (the ones Liberals revile and bash to death), balanced the state budget, not a Washington INSIDER which is the most important thing, she’s made more enemies from the Republican establishment in Alaska that wants to get her out by any means…I love that, ……..meanwhile……”Zeus” Obama has spent more time running for President than currying his duties in the Senate, that’s is a disgrace and sad if it wasn’t true but it is. You have 2 reformers who aren’t afraid to fight their own party and take chances and you have on the other side……well, someone who talks a good game butnothing with meat on it to show for it, just platitudes, vagueness, no DETAILS on anything and some other guy who blasted the guy he’s with as someone who has no qualifications and no right to the job LOL, freaking hilarious. 2 people that are 100% beholden to the far left of their party, is scared to challenge them on anything. That is NOT CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN, because they themselves DON’T BELIEVE IN IT. No core values or principles, Obama-Biden is 100% beholden to the far left by their speech rhetoric that is always the same every 4 years except when Clinton ran.

One who is all talk and nothing to point to say “I passed this and it changed things, it made a difference in people’s lives and the other who’s been in Washington for 30 years and well, not much for him but I give a little credit he has more of a record to look at than “Zeus” Obama. And here’s another thing, I find it very interesting how the liberals all of a sudden love the Clintons. Very interesting, if you had scoured the message boards like I have, and believe me I do, all last week especially Monday and Tuesday you saw postings “Fuck the Clintons, they have been against Obama, they are trying to sabatoge them”….that’s all you read from them, they hated the Clintons, the Hillary supporters with mentally sick vitriol. Then as usual, the Clintons have to come in and save the day for the Empty suit and his zombies and now they love them “I love the Clintons, oh my god did you hear those speeches, well done, Bill you can suck my cock”…..yes, these are the mentally deranged liberals response I read throughout that you can just laugh at these pathetic humans

. For some reason, they actually believe the Clintons want Obama to win. You know why the Clintons have been the only Dems in that White House for over 20 years don’t you? They are CENTRISTS. Not far left liberals like you are. They realize you must be centrists for Dems to ever have a chance to win. You’ve done nothing but replace John Kerry who had the exact same policies as Obama and replace him with an African American candidate Obama who has better oratory skills.

You’re trying to get a Liberal version of Bill Clinton with I’ll admit nice oratory skills who is black into the WH….but it won’t work. Clinton is a Centrist. It’s no wonder he takes cheap shots at Obama when he’s not looking and that the Clintons secretly say that he will lose……..they know exactly why. I’m moderate myself, I voted for Clinton because he was a Centrist. I will vote for McCain-Palin because I like reformers, those are real change agents, not a 100% beholden to extremes. These are the only 2 real change candidates in the election. Not the 2 frauds who are using the word as their mantra but don’t have the beef behind it, the evidence, the substance that you can show me to my face with results that I can look at and judge.

McCain is a genious. Whether you like it or not, this was a brilliant choice. She is pretty (no matter what you think), but more importantly, she is just plain likeable. Unlike many in politics, including Hillary, most people no matter what their stance, are just going to like her, there’s nothing not to like. As a 40yr old white guy republican, I was shocked when I heard the pick, but because of this pick, no doubt, McCain will be in office. Bravo McCain and congrats to Sarah, whom by first impressions, seems to be very impressive.

1. Sarah Palin has proved herself already.
2. Check her record that is “She definitely walks her walk” unlike talker only o’bama.
3. She cuts no deals unlike o’bama/biden who have so much “bought experience” cutting deals, you would be smart to check out the voting records of o’bama/biden especially their lobbist buddies. So cut the B.S. about Sarah Palin, she is the most honest public servant we will see in a long long time.
4. o’bama/biden have both proven themselves so untrustworthy that one must wonder about all the people that they have fooled so far.
5. Check out Sarah Palin’s record, it is for real, she has does her job and much better than the so called 20+ and 30+ tear experienced bought politicians that she very easily defeated.
6. Too bad there is only one Sarah PALIN, we need in each and every state.
7. Alaska has been so lucky to be blessed with such a wonderful public servant.

I like her because she is NOT the typical politician and because she actually seems like someone who is not out of touch like so many in Washington. She isn’t the elitist that the McCains, Bidens and Obamas are. You go girl!

Ask Obama and Biden to list their achievements and experiences so far ( Both foreign and within America). Ask Palin to list her own. The differences will be very negligible. A senator experience is a boxed experience. It is not a practical experience. A Governors experience is practical while dealing with the populace. If this lady was a mayor and subsequently a Governor she sure can perform better as a vice president than the senators. I think she is going to be a formibadable vice president.

Interesting to read the “she has no experience” in the legislature comments. Uh, dudes, the President & VP are “executive” jobs, not legislative. In fact, of the 4 people left running, she has more experience in the executive than McCain, Biden & Obama combined! SHes taken on corruption, big oil and her own party in Alaska and she has a approval rating of 80% the highest in the nation. All you No-bama supporters have never learned the lesson: Never underestimate the power of a woman. And now this little “beauty queen runner up” is gonna kick a little liberal Democrat booty. Gotta love it!

Obama folks your cat claws are growing. Meowww. Sarah Palin will bring the Evangelical Christian Conservative vote and the disgruntled Hillary men and women over to the John McCain/Sarah Palin camp and in November we will have a new President McCain and VP Sarah Palin.

BREAK THE GLASS CEILING !!!
WOW … What a great pick!!! America should elect
McCain & Palin for the Whitehouse in November,
for a return to wholesome American values.
An experienced Governor for V.P. vs. a
community organizer for President … I pick Palin.
No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Ayers, no Rezko,
no mean Michelle, NOBAMA

Excellent Choice!!

Great choice McCain; true to your maverick style, you picked someone out of mainstream, which by the way ppl, in politics, that is a good thing. The political situation in Washington is atrocious and most sheeple don’t understand that it takes getting back to the basics. I never busted on Obama for his lack of experience, I just don’t agree with him 99% of the time and I don’t trust him. As for Palin, at least she’s a real person. That’s what we need in office; statesperson not politician.

I’ve been saying for two years that the only way the GOP could have a PRAYER of staying in office would be to dump the “old white man” for Vice President (I mean, we know they will pick on old white man for Pres) and choose a woman. My pick was Condy, but if Sarah Palin is already stirring this much chatter, I’m pleased. McCain is a savvy old guy. He knows exactly what he’s doing!

And you’re right, elcid66. The Republicans do indeed have a track record of promoting minorities. Women aren’t a minority, though, so you should probably learn a little bit about demographic reality before you try to be sarcastic.

Political views aside, though—doesn’t this make the election just that much more exciting? I can’t wait to see how this plays out.

I will easily admit I had never heard of Palin before McCain chose her as his VP candidate. But in the short time I’ve looked information up on her, I have found many instances where she supported a bill or movement, and later changed her view, which contradicts what a lot of you have said about her “not renigging” and “being clear in her support”. She also has no stated policy on foreign relations.

Dawn…your comment about Obama’s “long lost brother in a hut in Africa” was also extremely prejudice. I still don’t know who I am going to vote for…and therefore am not a full Obama supporter, but your comment shows what is wrong with our nation and our view on foreign nations and foreign relations. And I am a young white girl.

When did Johnny Walnuts decide that Cindy was getting too old? (McSame’s first wife was a swimsuit model before her disfiguring auto accident.)

my only concern is her lack of experience as it applies to being one step away from being president. you can’t just vote for someone as VP you have to ask yourself if you would vote for that person as President……she seems like a great lady and has a future in politics I’m just not sure that she is ready to be President.

great pick mccain
nice tits!!!

rest assure w/ this off the mark vp pick, “lame mccain” will now secure the votes of all the airhead yuppie soccer moms
well…..at least now he’ll have someone that will help him w/ his speaches,,,,ever notice the ole fart has to look down every few words at the written speech to see where he’s at?
obama never does,,,,tell ya sometin” about who’s the smarter of the two?
oh, that’s right, you bush kiss a**es don’t know the difference
we are in for dire times

Here is what is weird about the VP selections this year… The President is supposed to be senior in experience to the VP. The president should pick a junior politician to mentor as VP in order to ensure that the president’s will is followed and to grow the party. .

The democrats got it all mixed up this time… They picked the least qualified candidate to try to run our nation and paired him with the older, more experienced (read as better qualified) VP. Do you think Biden will sit back and impliment every freshman mistake that Obama’s inexperience dictates? No way. Biden will not be taking leadership notes when Obama is in office, he will be giving them. Obama’s lips will move but they will be Biden’s words. The next step will be to plop Obama on Biden’s lap and see if Biden can drink a glass of water.

If Obama was president, then it would be like the boy king who had to be groomed for the mantle of leadership by a cadre of experts, many of whom would be infinitely more qualified to be king. Obama will spend a good portion of his first years in office, just learning how to be president. We might need change, but we don’t need it bad enough to turn on a leadership vacuum.

When a sports franchise is having troubles, then they scrub their roster, tell their fans that they are sorry but don’t worry, season tickets will be half off until we are done with our rebuilding year. That sucks for sports fans. I want to see the best game possible, but with Obama and Biden in Office, it is a rebuilding year. And let’s be clear, Obama is no Kobe and Biden is no Shaq.

I have to agree with the comment about Bill Ayers. This guy was a domestic TERRORIST. He bombed the Pentagon, you know the one that had to be rebuilt from the foreign Al-Qaeda Terrorist attack on 9/11/01? He bombed NYC Police Headquarters, he killed COPS…….he killed COPS!!!!!!! Get that through your head, do you understand. Obama started his political career in the house of Bill Ayers, a domestic TERRORIST…….an enemy of the United States of America…….he said he didn’t do enough, he wanted to kill more Americans……Obama called Ayers “Mainstream, part of mainstream America”. That’s why people question Obama’s sincerity in this country. Someone who wants to run for President of the United States is friends with a terrorist who wanted to destroy America? Can you get that through your heads? Ask yourself if you are thinking of voting for Obama: Can I live with myself and sleep at night knowing I voted for someone who thinks a domestic terrorist and his actions were “mainstream”……why kind of conscience do you have? When I learned that, he disqualified himself from ever getting my vote. Even if I was to agree with him on 100% of the issues, I would never forgive myself to vote for that kind of person……NEVER. I would call myself an “enemy of America” if I did. I won’t be doing that, because I never forgot 9/11 and what happened to us. I sincerely hope Americans wake up and realize that when they go into the voting booth. It’s really a shame the media isn’t paying more attention to this 1 issue. All of this talk of judgement and whatever, that 1 judgement completely disqualified him from ever getting my vote. I would hope the rest of the American people think about that when they cast a vote and look at their conscience.

The Obama circus is OVER & OUT.
Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air. There’s no question she has the skills to do the job of VP and it will become more evident. She’s a full fledged, honest to God, down to earth, real American with strong values and good personal and politcal sense.
Thank you John McCain for pulling through. The Presidency is yours!!

The National Guard in Alaska is Palin’s military arm. It is hers to do with as she sees fit. If she did not want Guardsmen to go to war in support of the National agenda, then she wouldn’t send them. The fact that members of the Alaska National Guard do deploy and that she supports her son, also in the military, says a lot for her personal views on how foreign policy should be handled.

Let’s all agree on one thing…we want something better.

Let’s all agree that we can’t totally trust what they say they’re gonna do in the White House.

Then let’s agree that Governor Palin says what she’s gonna do and does it.

Voting is like taking your shot, and crossing your fingers at the same time.

I say, let’s have a group hug and say a few prayers for whoever gets voted in…it’s a tough job. Any one of you should try it for a week and see if your head doesn’t start spinning.

This is the hardest election ever, who to choose? If it was Hilary, ok, but with reservations. Nobama for me, there’s something too slick and not believable about him. Give me Colin Powell and it would have been YES! McCain is a republican, do not know what that means, what does he believe in? This country. So do I. Now he’s chosen an absolutely engaging person for his VP to be. Why would women hate her? I don’t get it. How can you hate someone for something they truly believe is right and it doesn’t hurt anyone? She’s helped AK out of a few jams already. I’m not in favor of female doctors poking at my innards, but an intelligent, no nonsense, family-oriented woman with executive experience for VP. I can dig it.

I find it laughable that the Obama camp would even THINK to call to question Sarah Palin’s experience! Her laundry list of accomplishments is impressive and she has fought corruption at an executive level. The Obama machine’s argument is “she is a mayor from a small town.” Sure, that’s where she started, but isn’t that more impressive then the Presidential candidate on THEIR ticket who started as a “community organizer” (still have no idea what that is). The truth is, there has never been a candidate to win a major party nomination who has escaped appropriate and responsible examination like Obama. His ties to extremist individuals (a “former” terrorist, and and a racist minister) and groups is documented, yet the media has fallen all over themeselves to sweep it under the carpet. Obama has worked hard to create an image as a “reformer” and campaigns under the rally call of “Change we can believe in”. Really? Don’t you think if Obama really walked the walk as a crusader for change, he would have started in Chicago - and taken on the corrupt members of the machine politics there? But, wake up people - he didn’t!! Instead, he has BACKED the deeply corrupt politicians there - even when BOTH parties were fighting for CHANGE.
It is shocking - really shocking - that just becuase of his racial pedigree - the Democartic party has irresponsibly nominated a man that has no track record of accomplishment and boasts political and personal ties that call into question his personal integrity. Wake up America! Don’t believe what the media spoon feeds to you - care enough about your country and ALL of our children to find out the facts on your own. Obama is not the messiah, a greek God, a ROCK STAR, or the great beacon of hope that the Demorcratic party and liberal media presents to you. Just scratch th surface of the Obama image, and you will see he is not who his campaign wants you to believe he is.

Excellant choice. She could kick Hillary Clinton’s _ss any day.

Mc Cain’s pick is a suprise to me and most people. She counteracts Obama’s oratory skills with much more substance!
I really do not think John picked her to offset or to try to lure female votes away from Obama. SHE IS WHAT HE WAS looking for in a running make. She is independent, she will do what is right for the people who vote for her, she will put the country ahead of lobbyists (The bridge to nowhere that both John Mc Cain and her fought against). She more than the other Vice Presidential candidate will not be in anyone’s pocket.
Obama and Biden promise more of the same talk and actions. Too bad the Tony Rezko investigation was not done in some place other than the near century old coruption plagued Democratic Machine in Illinois. I am sure the result would have found another person guilty of more than just bad decisions.
The first person I voted for president for was Kennedy. I was young, and although I had followed politices and international affairs since I was 10, I fell for his charm. Sound familiar? the only difference is Kennedy said “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. What a 180 degree switch for the Democrats!!! Obama’s stand is totally reverse of this statement. How can he or anyone in the Democratic party mention Kennedy’s name or try to make a comparision?
Palin walks the walk. She is real, someone the Democrats themselves state Washington needs. Someone who is not an insider. Well Dems; here SHE is. A working class woman; a blue collar union member husband; a reformer in her own party (Dems take the hint, there is a lot to clean in your own party), a woman who is not afraid of the challenge of caring for a special needs child; proud of the decision of a son who will be going to Iraq (I am sure some of you (Compasionate ha ha) liberals just had the thought that you hope he is killed).
The work she has accomplished in such a short time in office makes Obama and Biden look like rank amatures. Think of what she will learn and contribute over the next 8 years. Years that will be much different than the past 8 years.
Why have the liberals already started to point out her inexperience and that she is only a heartbeat away from becoming president? Don’t you realize Obama would be that heartbeat from the get go and he has not accomplished as much as she while in public office.
Obama would pick the team to advise and help run the executive branch of goverment. With what experience? Or would the Democratic party tell him who to appoint. That would be more probable! Palin would not make those choices.
Would you rather have an inexperienced number two or an inexperienced number one? The choice is clear.

Stupid liberals are really going to regret attacking Sarah Palin the way they have…….you fools attacked small town America……this is exactly why you lose…….America was and continues to be built on the ideals and values of small town America. That is where the American dream begins in small towns. Watching that press conference for Sarah Palin and then hearing the typical elitist response from the Obama campaign making fun of small town America…….how stupid are you? do you really have nothing in your heads? oh wait, but you have the candidate who has those views of “typical white Americans who cling to religion and guns”. That’s why they fled to Hillary. Obama doesn’t represent those values and no fake, phony little convention you frauds try to portray is going to change that. The GOP rightfully so will make sure your past statements and views are remembered…….for the little record Obama has, his various dumb statements are so long and full of himself. Ironic isn’t it liberals, the 1st black candidate and his campaign preach the “reverse racism” they say is preached against them. What a phony……what a fraud.

This election is going to be really special because when McCain wins, I’m going to celebrate not only for McCain and Palin but how the liberals again are their own worst enemy and destroy themselves again. Unfortunately we’ll have to hear more “America is in the toilet, America is doomed, death to “so and so”….you know the typical negativity liberals preach 24/7….everything in America is bad, the economy is in the dumps, worst times since the Great Depression right liberals (even though GDP was more than 3 percent this quarter, lowest rate of inflation, lowest unemployment in history) please have savior Obama with no record, no accomplishments, voted present in the Illinois State Senate more than he ever took a principled stand on any issue by voting Yes or No, voted in favor of Infanticide and was caught on video being proud of that vote. This guy was save us….sad and pathetic. It’s ok Liberals, you can have Obama go and take some more lessons from his mentor Jimmy Carter…he can watch old footage as people had to pay $10-$12.00 gas, stand in breadlines and soup kitchens for hours……how was that economy liberals huh? How was it?…….When you walk outside, do you see that? Liberals disgust me and they’ll learn again why they have become a bankrupt party.

Democrats hypocrisy in this election cycle has been so laughable. They tried to say Bush had no experience even though he was a governor and had a record to judge and because of that, chose Cheney who they then say “well, he is the real President, he’s the one who is really making the decisions”……meanwhile, they choose Obama, who has no experience in anything in his entire life….he hasn’t led anything, he hasn’t passed 1 single solitary bill that “changed” anything, hasn’t been the head of any committee. When Democrats did take over congress, he didn’t even hold 1 single solitary meeting on Afghanistan when he was on the foreign relations committee. Now he chooses Biden, the guy with all of the experience on the VP spot……….uh hello anybody home in there Democrats, you did exactly what you complained Republicans did in 2000. That’s hypocrisy at it’s finest. McCain-Palin 2008! It’s going to be great!

the obama campaign knows what they are trying to do. they want to run this “stealth campaign”. run someone who can talk but has no record or experience for the job, try to charm your way into people’s heads, blur the issues as much as they can, don’t explain any issues or principled stands and the worst thing, try to hide all of his anti-american connections and friends like ayers, wright, etc. from the public with help from abc, cbs, nbc, MSninobama’spocketBC, cnn. they crave power so bad. that’s not change, that’s dangerous for this country. when you watch these obama rally’s like this convention, it’s so eerily similiar to what hitler did in those beerhalls way back when. he got so many followers and disciples that were attracted to his words because they wanted to feel good about something but they didn’t care about what he really wanted to do….look what ended up happening. now now, don’t say “he’s saying obama is hitler”, no but what he’s doing were all things hitler did and got so many people to do whatever he said, telling him he is some messiah, some guy who is going to rescue them from the depths and they didn’t care to look at him as a whole and really evaluate what he really wants to do to this country. that’s scary. he is no Kennedy, and he’s certainly no MLK and his record of doing nothing and having nothing to show for it reflect that. republicans better start the informing process this week at the conventions and hit it really hard, harder than ever every single day forward or america will pay a price.

I wonder if rove pays these palin “supporters” to blog clog, or if they are just generous volunteers determined to ruin this country…the terrorists want mccain to win. They have succeeded in destroying our country if he does. Half the country hates the other half, we distrust the government, and we get stupider, sicker, and poorer each day. the 9/11 plan was more diabolical than the burning towers broadcast on the news that morning could ever show us. Putting the Grand Ol Putos in charge for another 4years is the final nail in the coffin of this once great country.

Now finaly there is a reason to vote this time.I will be voteing for Sarah.

LibFems FIRST resort would be to execute the down syndrome child before birth.
with Sarah, it was never an option.
THAT’s why they hate her
So anything that spews from their lips, means nothing to most women in America.
PERIOD !!!

To the misinformed PiNC, you mean how the Hamas terrorists organization spokesman himself said “I support Obama”. Or how Obama is friends with a terrorist who lives in Chicago, Ayers. The American people know who the “terrorist’s best friend” really is. I see you are another one of those America did 9/11 conspiracy theorists, since your party believes in abortions and killing babies, it’s a shame you weren’t one of those. Palin is not Hillary? don’t make me laugh, she’s done more in her life than Hillary has by being a successful mayor, went through the ranks to governor, cleaned out the corruption in Alaska. has 5 children, still married to the same man after 20 years, didn’t abort a downsyndrome baby she recently had like Obama would have if his anti-american wife who only became proud of america since her husband got a nomination if she had one, you can just see what she would say “oh my god, it’s retarded, kill it”. she loves that child more than anything like a proud mother should. all Hillary has shown is be a carpet bagger jumping from Arkansas to NYC and right on her disgraced husband’s coattails to become a senator and stay with him after he got his cock sucked. Real class woman of the people there isn’t she.

doesn’t these blog comments make you scared about the U.S. ? Living in the bay area shelters me from interacting with all these crazies.

Wake up America!
Obama frightens the heck out of my family and I!
We were democrats, but not anymore!!!!!!!
The whole family will be proudly VOTING FOR McCain and Sarah in November!!!!
They have the values that America needs!
Beware of Obama and his kool-aid***

wow! the wonders of a google search. at least guanabee is getting traffic? is that good?

“oh my god, it’s retarded, kill it?” i bet you laughed when you typed that.

None of this takes away from the fact that mccain is a terrible candidate. He’s got nothing. He’s the one running for Prez. Not Palin, not Hillary. It’s him. And he sucks. And now, with all this chatter and palin as his veep pick, it’s obvious the grand ol putos know it too. To say that palin is more accomplished than Hillary (or even Elizabeth Dole or Christine Whitman) is like closing your eyes in a crowded room and thinking no one can see you. Your view is not reality.

So, paid or volunteer? Or just a fucking idiot?

Obama and Ayers sitting in a tree
Planning the next Terrorist attack on this great democracy
Liberals = Al-Qaeda, they cheered for 9/11 that’s why they don’t find fault with someone who wanted to kill more Americans and destroy more American institutions. To them, Obama starting his political career in the home of a known domestic terrorist excites them. Answer it, liberals..answer why you can in your black hearts support that….it’s because you are enemies of this country and your kind should be imprisoned for life and never let out. your poison and hate for this country, your negative thinking that this country is bad and worthless, get the fuck out of here and go to someplace like China, go to your communist/socialist havens, you aren’t wanted here.

Obama was chosen because of his appearence and ability to speak. Big money put him in position to run. Like Sara It took someone to place them there. A white guy with his experience would not have a chance!

AND SO IS MCCAIN. PALIN ISNT PRETTY.

republicans getting desperate. hahaha.

Ok. McCain is a GOOD canditate. He’s strong and smart. But his constituents? mostly misled. And his VP? a complete zero. and his advisers? eh.

I wouldn’t be too upset about mccain victory though. he’s liable to go completely against the republican party anyway and follow his conscience once he needs to make tough decisions.

sorry bout flames T_T got irritated.

Oh, Palin.

Let’s leave aside that she is akin to a rotting carrot that Republican party is dangling to pander to female voters. Because while her VP would be historic, it would hardly be beneficial to American girls and women.

Palin is under an ethics investigation from that ex-brother in law situation. Her faults also include her desire to decimate the alaskan wilderness to drill for oil as well as the myriad of ways that she intends to slowly roll back on and stomp out women’s rights. And that’s just with a broad brush.

Fine, that is who she is, those are her beliefs.

But oh, Palin. For if this story is true, you have shown yourself to be yet another flawed and incompetent cog in the wheel that is the Republican machine:

Alaskan Governor’s child may be her daughter’s?

I thought she was all about abstinence as effective birth control?

The Republican party is ashambles. They are adrift in a sea of nothing but lies and failure and inability to enforce their core beliefs.

They do nothing but endlessly pile scorn on top of scorn for others and make policy that is both uneducated and ineffective.

Oh the schadenfreude feels so good.

And while I do believe that this should ordinarily be a private family issue, it is illogical to grant her said privacy and it must become a public issue when her practices don’t match the policy she makes and expects the American public to follow when she is living the infectivity of her failed policy.

*They do nothing but endlessly pile scorn on top of scorn for others who are different and have different beliefs and make policy that is both uneducated and ineffective.

McCain-Palin 2008!!!! my vote is sealed. ciaoooo

Palin already had 4 kids and at 44 years old was at high risk for having a baby with downs syndrome.

Why didn’t Palin the pro-lifer adopt an orphaned baby instead of getting pregnant to have a baby at high risk of having downs syndrome?

This shows Palin’s poor judgement to take such a high risk instead of compasionately helping an orphaned baby that was not aborted.

John McCain should pick Hugh Heffner as his Secretary of State. This way he can be sure to fill all his cabinet positions with good looking babes. Party On!!!!

Face it, McCain made this choice based on the support he saw from Democrats who wanted Hillary to be Obama’s VP choice. He saw Obama pass on the opportunity and decided to steal the vagina vote for himself.

Palin has more executive experience than McCain, Obama and Biden ADDED TOGETHER.
She is smarter and wiser than Obama, less corrupt than Biden and more energetic than McCain. Excellent choice.

wooo Sarah Palin / John McCain!!!!!!
I was a democrat not anymore, Obama offers us nothing but pretty rhetoric, if he were white/latin or asian he wouldn’t stand a chance… 0.00000000 ZERO experience

Until the announcement of Sarah Palin as VP, I was wondering what there was to vote for. Now, we have someone that stands for something, doesn’t back down when pressured, has a mind of her own, and can do major good for our country, Yes, she doesn’t have alot of experience, but that is probably a good thing—look what alot of experience has gotten us so far—crippled economy, unemployment, gas prices so high that most people can’t go anywhere except work, rising food prices. When our “leaders” say they want experience, are they really saying that they want someone that will be or already is corrupted and can be bought??? Bring on Sarah Palin and let her help us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Palin qualified to be vice president?
An evangelical pentocostal, former fellowship of christian athletes member who adimts to smoking pot? I could stop right there…..

A former beauty queen with a degree in journalism/communications from the Universty of Idaho.
Doesn’t believe mankind has anything to do with global warming.
Who needs the polar bear. Doesn’t believe it should be considered and endangered species.
Supported the aerial hunting of wolves in Alaska to preserve the moose population for hunters! Are you kidding me???
Wants to prolong and encourage our dependence on fossil fuels. Alaska cannot produce enough fossil fuels to support our consumption, but she wants to postpone the solutions we should have started working on thirty years ago.
Believes victims of rape and incest should be required to continue their pregnancy.
Went back to work THREE DAYS? after giving birth to a new baby, but promotes herself as a dedicated and down to earth mother.
Doesn’t believe in contraception, but believes in the death penalty????
Her husband works for BP and her son is being deployed to Iraq…no conflicts of interest there???Sure…she’ll be able to make objective decisions as the commander in chief if our 72 year old president isn’t around. Good luck on that one.
She is being investigated for abuse of power in office. No decision is yet available.
Foreign policy positions stated as “not clear” at the time of her nomination.

I was still trying to decide who to vote for, but this choice for McCain’s VP an insult to our intelligence and an out and out train wreck.

she can talk, she inspires and she does wear much pantsuits…
love her

more on Sarah here

In god we trust as one!
whisper snowy race horse.

I never knew until now what a slew of conservative and is it far fetched to assume racist people read this blog. wow, scary, If this is the country i live in, we deserve the fucked up right wing freaks you want to vote for who have all had a hand in driving the US into the ground.. here is an email I received regarding Palin.

With McCains third beauty queen on the scene:

I contacted a friend who has lived in Alaska for a lot of

years, to request more info. This person is someone who is generally fair and positive about the assessments of people. I assume that these would be things we should know about before voting, and the media will be reporting a lot of other information in the weeks to come.

It was awhile before I received a response. This was the response to me and to many other people who e-mailed the person for more info.

Well, if you want my opinion about our perky little Sarah Palin, here goes: She has NO experience that would prepare her to be leader of the free world—or any other world either. She was mayor of Wasilla, a little town of 8500 we drive through to get to the cabin every week.
Before being elected to governor, just 2 years ago.
She did NOT stop the bridge to nowhere—as the news programs are claiming today (Alaskans thought it was a stooopid idea from the start)

She all of a sudden (strange as it may sound) had a 5th child this spring ( no one even knew she was expecting) and a few days later had the baby in her office angering all the other women and mothers in state government who are not allowed to have THEIR babies in the offices with them. (It’s a Down syndrome baby so we fel empathy for

her family)

She had promised to get Alaska a flat tax on the big oil companies but couldn’t get it done even with a Republican legislature in power here.

And, in this world of overpopulation concerns, she has 5
children—yet does not work for or support increasing funding for
preschool education or children’s health care. Other people with 5 children desparately need those things.

And with her husband still working for BP, she doesn’t have to worry about her own family’s health care.

During her campaign (altho she has not said anything about it since
then) she doubts that evolution really happened and thinks that
“intelligent design” should be taught in high school biology classes. solely
Right now she’s embroiled along with her husband and other administration members in a rather nasty investigation about whether or not she and her husband (known here as the “First Dude) pressured her Commissioner of Public Safety (a popular cop) to fire a state trooper who was going through a bad divorce with Sarah’s sister and had tazered his 9 year-old stepson who asked him to do it so he’d know how it felt—Hey! We bviously have high quality folks up in Alaska.
It was generally conceded that she would would not have won if she hadn’t been so darned cute and perky.
This certainly should make people think seriously about McCain’s judgment! And it should certainly make folks stop questioning whether Obama has enough experience to be president—obviously McCain doesn’t value experience all that much after all!

Just check out the FACTs as the weeks roll along, not just the political hype. There’s a lot not being said so far. She’s plenty smart, and she was a good point guard for Wasilla High School basketball team—which she highlighted in her acceptance speech this morning. (Maybe they’re trying to blunt Obama’s basketball skill reputation).

But we’d better pray that McCain doesn’t have a heart attack or more melanoma if he does win in November!
Your friend in amazed disbelief—along with every other Alaskan I know.

Shocking Choice by John McCain WASHINGTON— Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

“Senator McCain’s choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.

“Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.

“This is Senator McCain’s first significant choice in building his executive team and it’s a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain’s commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil.” ### The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund (www.defendersactionfund.org) provides a powerful voice in Washington to Americans who value our conservation heritage. Through grassroots lobbying, issue advocacy and political campaigns, the Action Fund champions those laws and lawmakers that protect wildlife and wild places while working against those that do them harm.

Priv

It’s so refreshing to see women move up in politics. John McCain could not have picked anyone better. EXCELLENT CHOICE!

To all of you out there that are against our country finding our own oil to make our own fuel.
Are you very wealthy, so that the fuel prices don’t affect you? Do you really want to keep sucking up to the middle east for their oil? It’s time to put your hands around your necks, and pull your heads out of your butts!! Yes, we need to work on alternatives, but until we have them, I personaly don’t want to be raped at the gas pumps anymore!! There is technology out there that would allow drilling and refining that won’t hurt the environment. Open your minds to change, new ideas, and getting away from dependence on overseas oil. Bring on Sarah Palin and her ideas to help America get out of the deep mess we’re in!!!!!!!!!!!

When FDR picked Truman as his VP, he was a little known Congressman; when FDR died in office, Truman became, arguably, one of the best Presidents to date.
So? She’s a woman. Big deal! So was Margeret Thatcher (former PM of Great Britain). Why should her gender affect her ability to perform her duties? Its as ignorant as saying Obama wouldn’t make a good President due to his race.
Let’s focus on the issues and where the candidates stand, not superficial nonsense!

Why did all the gringo Republican whackjobs swarm to this site all of a sudden? Nobody believes your crap here either. Go away please. Palin is this year’s Clarence Thomas. We don’t need any more of those.

ijole…wtf happened? this looks like a youtube comments section…

Sweet. Let the landslide begin. NoBama

@everyone GUAU! i agree with andar_de_pelo_suelto this shit is getting out of hand. i “read” a couple of the comments as i scrolled down, but i got bored with the really long “this is why i’m voting mccain/whatshername” comments.

i thought at least a couple people would speak to the sexism discussed in article (but maybe i just skipped over them). good job GB you got me thinking about what i see constantly on tv. my sexism filter has gotten lazy from all the tv. i dont usually like to talk politics because i’m not terribly informed but i’ll def be on the lookout for the way she is discussed in the future, as well as mix it into conversations when appropriate.

apologies if that was long, boring, or skippable.

almost forgot, her daughter is pregnant GASP but i’m confident that won’t be blown out of proportion in some unspeakable way

You without sin cast the first stone.
Be careful what you say, your child may be next.

What is so Vogue-ish about Sarah Palin? She wore a $2.99 banana hair clip when introduced by McCain as VP candidate. Hoop and long dangling earrings with suits. More into killing animals then protecting them on endangered species list. Doesn’t believe global warming is caused by humans (really!). Doesn’t believe birth control should be taught. Not too fashionable in my books!

Contrasting Biden’s experience as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee with the years Sarah Palin spent as a homemaker…while Joe was overseeing our bases in Turkey, she was home basting a turkey.

“This certainly should make people think seriously about McCain’s judgment! And it should certainly make folks stop questioning whether Obama has enough experience to be president—obviously McCain doesn’t value experience all that much after all!”

I have to address this because I am SHOCKED that Americans are so misinformed and basically ignorant. Quite frankly, at this point “experience” should be the least of anyone’s concerns in this election. For the record, I am an Independent…not affiliated with either party and for good reason. Politics in general disgusts and frustrates me. But, as I began looking into both candidates, it did not take long to find out scary, shocking, and quite frankly, unbelivable facts about Obama. Let’s face it, if he wasn’t black (ok, half black, whatever) he wouldn’t have had a chance to be the #1 for the Democratic ticket. But, he is - and it is frightening. He has less experience than McCain - BY FAR - yet, everyone keeps comparing HIM to Palin. Last I checked he is the Presidential candidate and she is the VP candidate. But, that doesn’t really matter anyway. The question here is about judgement, about character, and about integrity.
1) The list of questionable characters in Obama’s life story is unbelivable. Any other person would have never been considered as a potential candidate for President with ONE of these people in their history.
2) Ayers is a unrepentant terrorist, who has donated to the Obama campaign. Oh, and Obama’s political career started in his living room.
3) One of Obama’s youthful influences is Frank Marshall Davis - who, aside from instructing Obama that “you can never fully trust white people” (David Freddoso, political reporter and author of The Case Against Barack Obama) - he was also reportedly a member of the communist party. (When asked directly by a Senate committee in 1956 if he was a member of the Communist party, he took the Fifth Amendment).
4) Obama’s close associations are riddled with radicals and extremists. His black advisory council includes a “progressive socialist” and a foreign policy advisor who had to resign after it was brought to light that he had been meeting with the terrorist group Hamas. The Hamas political advisor has also stated that his group supports Obama’s foreign policy ideas.
5) Obama is also influenced by (and has trained others) on the philosophy of Alinsky, a left wing “community organizer” who dedicated his book Rules for Radicals to “the very first radical…who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he won his own kingdom…Lucifer.” That’s right, Satan himself.
5) His minister for 20 YEARS was Jeremiah Wright, who is a radical minister known for his inflammatory sermons. He is also vocal about his racial attacks against white people. Obama has said that the first Wright sermon he heard changed his life. (Oh, and in it he talks about white people’s
“greed” and goes on to blame whites for world hunger). Wright baptized Obama.
…and the list goes on and on.
My point is, all of the other BS that Obama supporters bring up doesn’t really matter when you break it down to the basics…and the number one basic question is - does the person you elect, to arguably the most powerful position in the world, have our country’s best interest at heart? Can you trust him? Do you know what he stands for, what his vaules and morals are, and most importantly, where his loyalties lie? So, I ask you Obama supporters those questions…do you know? Can you prove it? Personally I would choose a war hero, a former POW, someone who has scarificed more for this country than most of us would ever dream to do. He may not be perfect, he may not be ideal, he may be old. But, at least with him, I know what I am voting for.
(Facts from above are from several sources, including David Fressoso’s book).

Helllo America,It is about time we America have a very talent, beatiful woman to be VP next to McCain. Sarah is a lady deserves all the best from us and will bring America to a prosperous time in the history. Sarah really beats Hillary, Peloci and other women we have known. How on earth could American put the trust and belief into a black guy like Obama. What do you all find in him? I have been told that never in the life trust a black man. Wake up America…. If you still want low tax, safe country to live in, think twice before voting for the black guy. Alll Democrats are liars and untrustworthy. Don’t listen to the nice speeches from Dem. Look at what they did to the country, ie, Bill and Hillary Clinton. What did Bill do the country? Look at what he did in the oval office with Lewinski? Such a shame to the
