Undefeated Little League Team Matamoros, Mexico beat the undefeated Team Tokyo, Japan 5-4 in a 6-inning International Championship game that ended a couple of hours ago in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. (If you’re wondering why the hell we’re writing about sports when Guanabee is generally religiously opposed to them, read this.) We were a little confused yesterday about the stakes of this game. While Matamoros can now call themselves the International Champions, they still can’t call themselves the World Champions (weird, we know) until they beat the winners of this afternoon’s U.S. Championship between Lake Charles, Louisiana and Waipahu, Hawaii. The system seems a little set up for the American teams, but whatevs. It’s their league, we guess.

Back to the International Championship Game. Japan started out with a 2-0 lead over Mexico until the third inning when Mexico scored all 5 of their runs before Japan could get one out on the scoreboard. But in the fourth inning, with two outs against them, Japan came back to score three runs due to numerous errors on the part of Matamoros. This was about the time that pitcher Carlos Balboa—who until that time had done a bang up job— was replaced by wunderkind Jesus Sauceda (pictured above and below) and we began drinking more heavily. Sauceda stayed under 20 pitches so that he can pitch tomorrow. Talk about nerve racking! (Which is, perhaps, the real reason we hate sports.) On a personal feminist side note: We noticed that the Mexican families of the players sat with all the men in the front row of the bleachers and all the women in back. Hmmm….still we will be watching the World Championship Game tomorrow at 3:30 PM eastern on ABC when will be cheering against our own country. Sorry, boys. And Viva Mexico! Viva Matamoros!
