“Ugly Betty” Killed All The Other Hispanic Shows At The ALMA Awards Last Night

At last night’s taping of the 2008 National Council of La Raza ALMA Awards set to air on ABC September 12, “Ugly Betty” swept the show. Which brings up two points: 1) The show was taped. Like the technical portion of the Academy Awards. You know, the part that’s too boring to put on television. And, B), what possible competition could “Ugly Betty,” have had in any category? America Ferrera, bless her traveling pants, was even named the Chevy Entertainer of the Year for her title role. No word on whether that came with a Tahoe, but really, who else could it have been? Emilio Navaira? We think not. Oh, alright, we’ll be positive about this. We applaud the people who are managing to do something in entertainment to help make Latinos more visible. All 18 of them. Like Linda Rondstadt who won a Trailblazer Award, the guy who shot High School Musical 2 (can we shoot him?) and Charlie Sheen who is the most highly paid comic actor on TV for his role as a complete pig on “Two And A Half Men.” (It’s frikking true.) The entire list of outstanding Latino artists, from which La Pequeña is conspicuously absent, is after the jump.

A complete list of winners of the 2008 ALMA Awards:
_ Entertainer of the year: America Ferrera

I am so sick of this Ugly Betty crap and that fat chick playing her. Seriously. My mami was watching this shit a long time ago when it was called “La Fea Mas Bella” and they didn’t win any awards. WTF is the fascination with this crap?

I know Charlie Sheen is part Spanish from his dad but does he even identify himself as a Latino?

The only time Charlee Sheen identifies himself as a Latino is when he wants to get some tacos at the Hooters. What? Hooters doesn’t sell tacos? I wouldn’t be so sure…

Angelica Vale is the better Fea. Also her repertoire of novelas/sitcoms is much more impressive overall. Did anyone ever watch “Bendita Mentira”? Almost-incest-by-accident at its artistic height.
