Poor, 68 year-old Adolfo Galán of Granada, Spain just wants to marry his 23 year-old Moroccan girlfriend Eddab Nawal, but the governments of Morocco and Spain find it impossible to believe the couple wants to marry for love. Rude! And for that they can deny them a license. Ageist! In America anyway, but apparently not in Spain or Morocco. Or Brazil, for that matter. The couple wanted to move there, but Nawal was denied a visa. Is there something about these two no one is telling us?
According to Galán he has no financial motivation to marry her, so he can’t imagine why everyone is so against them. What do you guys think? Besides the fact that we personally can’t imagine falling in love with a 64 year-old at the age of 19, (or now), should the government be allowed to pre-empt a marriage based on speculation that it isn’t legitimate?

I can’t believe Spain would stop them. Morocco on the other hand doesn’t surprise me as they are Arab and, for the most part, treat women as second class citizens.

@ la roncha: I’m with you - I don’t like the taste of prune juice, either.

Spanish and Morroccan officials probably thought they were marrying for papers, as people do in the US, and called bullshit on them.
They should just go to Vegas, on student visas, and let “Julio Iglesias” looklike priest marry them in a drive through window….

Interesting since marriage began as a means of financially and/or politically benefitting both parties and not as a commitment of one’s love.

Um, Morocco is actually not a horrible place for women compared to other Islamic nations. Women go to schools, can preach and even own and run businesses. I know cuz I spent several months living there. Where you got your facts from?

Women in Morocco aren’t living large but they do enjoy more freedom than any other females in the muslim world at large.

@cacy: I wrote that, not La Roncha. And I get my facts from having visited there and being treated like whooore because I was a westerner and no, i wasn’t dressed in revealing clothing. I purposely wore loose, modest clothing. I have never been as terrified as I was walking around Fez—unless we were with a tour guide when they respected us and stayed back.
