Bitch In A Stitch: Bitch Magazine Might Be Folding

You might be familiar with our take on most magazines geared towards women (We’re not buying them.), but Bitch is and always has been an exception to that rule. And now it’s at risk of folding unless the publishers are able to cobble together the $40,000 needed to put out another issue.

If you’ve never read Bitch before — and we didn’t, initially, because we found the title off-putting and thought it was just going to be “shocking!” stories on how bake punk rock muffins or something (It’s not like that at all. But muffins sound good about now.) — this would be the perfect time to pick up an issue. Their articles are consistently witty, smart and insightful and, on a design nerd level, their magazine is always fantastically laid out.

So watch the clip and help a Bitch out, if you feel so inclined.

I thought they were doing well! Bitch is the best magazine, and the only one I can read without rolling my eyes. The content is great. My biggest beef with intelligent and clever women’s magazines is that I always feel like they’re being made for someone who isn’t me (read: white. I’m looking at you, BUST) Bitch is by far the most inclusive.

I’m trying to think of a clever ’save the Bitch so they don’t cut a Bitch’ quip, but nothings coming.

I’m donating. Plus, what’s the value of money anymore? Soon I’ll need a wheelbarrow to buy a cup of coffee.

Bitch is a good read - I picked them up when covered Erika Lopez back in the day. I’ll throw ‘em some coin because they covered her when no one else did (Flaming Iguanas is still one of my favorite books).

I dunno - how is it not possible that they didn’t know they were a month away from folding? That’s bad accounting somewhere…and bad management.

If they had asked this six months ago, I might be more inclined to help. That would have shown some awareness on their part, and still a possibility of business savvy in tough times. Now it just sounds like someone was pilfering the coffers, and they expect readers to bail them out.
