UPDATE Sept. 25, 2008 7:56 AM: Local San Antonio news reports the accident happened when Emilio Navaira’s wife Maria did not see an oncoming truck trying to turn left across three lanes of traffic and hit it head on. Both the driver of the truck and the couple are in stable condition according to news reports.

Sept. 24, 2008 11:00 pm: San Antonio television station KSAT reports that Emilio Navaira and his wife Maria are hospitalized in stable condition at University Hospital in San Antonio after being involved in a car accident today at approximately 5:30 pm on San Antonio’s far northwest side. The couple were on their way home from Emilio’s physical therapy appointment when the accident occurred. This comes six months after Emilio drove his tour bus into a highway median in Houston on Easter Sunday of this year.

The singer was still undergoing rehabilitation in Galveston, Texas for that accident, which left him with critical injuries, when he was evacuated to San Antonio because of Hurricane Ike. He has been attending therapy in San Antonio since then. A family member told KSAT that Maria Navaira was driving the car today when it was struck and that Emilio is not seriously injured, but he is being held for observation.
