Paul Newman has died at the age of 83 following a long bout with cancer. Newman is known for his roles in such iconic films as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Cool Hand Luke, as well as for having directed a number of films, including The Glass Menagerie, which starred his wife, actress Joanne Woodward. He is also known for having founded “Newman’s Own,” an organic food company, whose profits went to charity. And which makes the best chocolate mint cookies in all the world:

In 1982, Newman and his Westport neighbor, writer A.E. Hotchner, started a company to market Newman’s original oil-and-vinegar dressing. Newman’s Own, which began as a joke, grew into a multimillion-dollar business selling popcorn, salad dressing, spaghetti sauce and other foods. All of the company’s profits are donated to charities. By 2007, the company had donated more than $175 million, according to its Web site.

Here’s Paul singing “Plastic Jesus” in Cool Hand Luke:

And we never understood why Katharine Ross was with Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

All the good work he did for young cancer patients definitely earns him angels wings. My 5 yr. old nephew is in transition to next life after a long battle with liver cancer, so I know Mr.Newman is in a better place now that he is released from all that pain. Rest in Power.
